HOW-TO: RCI bolt-on slider installation (2nd gen DCSB)

Hi guys,

Just got my RCI sliders installed. They had the lowest price I could find on bolt on sliders ($660) and the shortest wait time (I ordered mine on 4/7 and got them on 5/16), so just over 5 weeks. I haven't seen a lot of sliders in person, but the quality looks top notch. I did not drill the optional holes. I am a novice mechanic, and this took me about 1.5 hours working solo.

**I DID NOT FOLLOW THE RCI INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT THEM.

Step 1: Gather tools

You will need:
-A floor jack
-Your choice of 3/8" or 1/2" socket wrench
-12 mm socket
-14 mm socket
-5/8" socket
-5/8" box wrench

Step 2: Remove drive shaft cross-arm bolt



I started on the driver side. The instructions say to remove the transfer case crossmember bolts (facing down on the frame rails). I think what they meant to say was drive shaft cross-arm. Anyways, grab your 14mm socket and remove this bolt. Next, grab your 12mm socket and remove the only bracket you see on the driver side frame rail.



Step 3: Prepare your driver side slider for install

If you don't know which slider is which, the kick out on the slider should be CLOSEST TO YOUR BACK WHEEL. Grab either your buddy or your floor jack and align the slider with the frame rail. The hole closest to your back wheel on the bottom of where your slider mounts will be where you bolt in the new bolt. Make sure the bracket you just removed is on the outside of your slider, not between your frame and the slider. Grab your M10 x 1.25 bolt and one of your 3/8" washers and replace the bolt that you previously removed.



Step 4: Start bolting in the rest of your slider

There are FIVE bolts for each side of your slider. My 2015 DCSB had the brake lines on the driver side. You can either go around them, but I would recommend popping off the clips (done by squeezing the clip from the outside of the frame rail and popping them in towards the vehicle). There is also a brake line mount which you will need to remove.



The first 2 holes (2 out of 5) you will see along the brake line clearly on the inside of the frame rail. Grab your 5/8" box wrench and 5/8" socket. The bolt head and washer will be OUTSIDE of the frame rail, backer plates and lock nut will be on the INSIDE of the frame rail.



The next 2 (4 out of 5) are toward the back wheel.



And the last one (5 out of 5) is tucked away near the front of the slider INSIDE of the frame rail.



Make sure everything is snug and re-clip your brake lines and bolt back the brake line mount (if you decided you needed to take any of this off)

Boom, driver side done.

Step 5: Repeat all steps on the passenger side

I did not have the electronic box on my tacoma that RCI mentions in the instruction manual, so I did not have to remove this piece. This left me with 3 spare M8 x 1.25 bolts and 5/16" washers. The passenger side was much easier as there were no brake lines.

Thread bump. Getting ready to install these on a 2nd gen. Anyone confirm these are good way to go about it?
I have two brackets with a slight degree bend I don’t see being used here

the rci instructions I printed are pretty bad
