I've been chasing a rattle in my engine compartment and finally found the culprit, but I don't know the name of the part. It's a shield just below the manifold on the passenger side. It looks like two of the nuts have worked their way through the bolt-holes and are no longer securing the part.

I was thinking about adding large washers to secure the nuts.

    I have three questions.
    1. What is the name of this part
    2. Is it ok to just add washers or better to replace the part?
    3. How difficult do you think it will be to remove these nuts?

Heat shield I imagine. Washers might do the trick or you could yank it altogether. That's what I did with one of the heat shields on one of my catalytic converters

I'm hesitant to remove any heat shielding because I'll be driving this Tacoma through the desert in about a month on my way to New Mexico.

Soak with PB blaster or ATF on those nuts/bolts before you try to remove them. They will snap off. A couple washers and it'll be fine till stress fractures work further out. Plenty run without heat shields on headers anyway.

I replaced a cracked manifold w/ LCE long pipe header. My colorado heat shield came right off. Still have it. Wishes I keeped the old manifold and extension pipe to the cat but, nope.
I would washer that boy and them nuts don't look as bad as I've seen on some from the east coast. I beat they wrench right off.
