A few years ago, I asked about what members favorite manual transmission oil was...
A GL-4 that was "yellow metal" friendly. To protect our Tacoma synchro. And I was told by many to use REDLINE. MT90 or MT85.
I did. I used the MT-90. But I've never really liked the performance. It was a bit hard at times to shift into first gear. As well as reverse. But I've had several Tacomas. And none of them shifted without minor issues at times. So its been in there for about 20,000 miles.
Yesterday I was doing another change. Mostly because I bought some Royal Purple at an excellent price.
Royal Purple is a GL4/GL5 but it actually mentions that it is yellow metal safe. Which is unusual.
I felt the need to come back here and mention how much smoother my gearbox is now. It is absolutely transformed.
Royal Purple 75-90 synthetic is fantastic in that old 5 speed.
BTW this Tacoma is a 2009 with a 4 banger engine. 91,000 miles.
