For sure, me too. But if I’m asking about a $2k purchase that I might be able to return then I’m checking the tiny screen attached to my hip.

He got swindled, or he's trolling.

I'm thinking the former of the two since he didn't even post pics.

    The voice of experience, here.

Had a '90 HiLux SR-5 X-traCab with the 3.0. I was fortunate in that it was a late '89 build, and had the Asbestos gaskets that the engine was designed for, so I never had an issue with the head gaskets. Mine died when a remote oil filter hose blew off, and spat out 6 quarts of oil in mere seconds (separate lesson here - use hydraulic hoses and fittings for such things).
I had every intension to rebuild the 3.0, until I found out that the 3.4 was nearly bolt on conversion, offering more power, better gas milage and better drivability. The 3.0 was relatively good, in that it was a Toyota engine (and most of the head gasket ills had been sorted out by 2006), but, still, it was not Toyota's best effort, and it richly deserved the 3.Slow title that it earned.
I would HIGHLY recommend rebuilding your 3.4, or sourcing another one, because I'm pretty certain that you will be VERY disappointed with the 3.0. once you're stuck with it.
    Best of luck to you.

Its a great swap but get a powerstroke 6.0 and swap out those head gaskets to the 3.0, just need some trimming to fit. Also the spark plugs from a 12 valve Cummins will make it fire better.

This. I had hoped that someone would say it early on. I mean do as you please, but the 3.4 > 3.0 in almost every way.

3.4 to a 3.0 swap is common
    That's like a 3rz swap to a 22r

It's not Friday and three quarter way through April already. I think it's the bad street drug making this decision.

No one's buying the "couldn't find anything on the interwebs, so I plopped down a couple grand, and am starting the conversion tomorrow" fairy tale, sorry.
