How concerned should I be with not having a tonneau cover?

Had a Bakflip. Noticed it got extremely heavy when I went to go open it, I couldn't fully support the weight to flip it up with one arm, and it slammed down and snapped the track off. Turns out it was water logged. It took three people to help lift it out of my truck. I stood it up against the garage, it leaked out water for over a week and a half. Obviously I can't put it back on, and it's 5 years old, so no warranty.
Want to go with RSI Smart Cap now, but have to save up some $$.

Been running with the Diamondback HD cover for a couple of years and no complaints! Security is the best. They have some bed racks out there that are compatible with the cover.

I use mine. Can easily take off on Home Depot runs when need to haul some.
Also nice to have protected coverage as someone mentioned on road trips.

Tweakers would find a way to disable/steal/sell the claymores.

As for the real question, trustworthy is subjective. Plenty of flat tonneau covers out there which can handle some low profile bed rack mounts. Personally I wouldn’t leave gear laying around in an open bed anywhere near civilization.

I'm pretty sure I don't, but it almost looks like Con Air

I have had several do the same on work trucks. Added to that; the Tacoma’s already shallow bed, with a tri fold that fits in, reduces the depth even more, to the point it wasn’t usable for me.

Nailed it. From the scene towards the end when the convoy of feds are heading into the airfield.

I love my tri-fold tonneau that I've had for 12 years. Its great for camping race events with my bed holding all the gear. I use plastic 6" tall to hold stuff, once the tent and grill are setup I can close the cover and keep all the bins dry. I also LOVE having it in the winter. No snow filled bed. Just brush the snow off the bed and continue on.

Depends where your truck is parked. Driveway? Street? Garage?

If your not staying in a town with a meat packing plant (probably not a problem even if you are), nobody is going to mess with another person's truck, even it it is some new fangled import truck. It just common decency. It still exists in the middle of Nebraska.

Above is my setup, Undercover Ridgelander tonneau with a Rhino Rack Pioneer platform attached to the top. Fully modular, can go from open bed to just the cover in less than 10 mins (with the help of a kayak hoist in the garage), and another 5 mins to attach the rack by myself to the cover. Same time investment to go back to just a open bed. With the stock struts switched out to heavier ones, can still raise the cover with the rack loaded down. Have made a number of modifications to strengthen cover to carry up to 300 lbs on top of it, including rack, offroad. It's solid. Unfortunately Undercover discontinued this cover, so unless you can find old stock, it might be hard to get.

Same here for the oem cover. It keeps everything perfectly dry, and out of sight from others, that I often keep in the bed.

Same with me. Anything can be broken into...locks are for your neighbors, but keeping the cover closed hides what is inside.
