Cabin and Engine air Filter

Engine: OEM.

Cabin: whatever is on sale and fits.

As others have mentioned, steer clear of K&N. Marginal benefit for drastically reduced filtering capability, or in other words, negligible performance increase while letting a bunch more dirt, sand, debris, etc. into you engine.

The point about the filter oil affecting MAF readings that others have made is valid too.

I'm going to have to try that one...

 

What he said - I couldn't figure out why there was fine dust on "engine side" of my K&N filter. A little reading, and it went straight into the garbage. NAPA Gold forever now.

 

Seems to happen OFTEN , any body find a cure , I put moth balls under truck and hood

 

AFE dry for engine and Amazon something or other for the cabin . It’s like $7 for cabin filter . I change mine twice a year .

I am using Denso with no problem at all. Denso is making OEM toyota filters and other parts just priced lower.
I have spare Denso filters for engine and cabin right now in my garage. I was ordering some other parts from rockauto and to save on shipping I just got filters as well.
Using denso for Honda CRV as well.

 

I use the Toyota OEM for both. I’ve had good luck cleaning up the cabin air filters and getting 3-4 uses out of them. I change/clean the cabin air filter with every oil change . (5k interval) I use compressed air to blow them out, soak and scrub with a little Woolite and a brush that gets down into the pleats and then air dry. The filter paper is very durable.

 

I don’t think it makes any damn difference what engine air filter or what cabin filter you use. Especially the cabin filter. Buy the cheapest you can find and change it when needed. It makes no difference for the engine air filter either. Any evidence an engine has failed due to the brand of air filter (as long as it is changed per manufacturer recommendation)? If some filters (fram always gets bad mouthed) are so bad there would be hundreds or thousands of examples of engine malfunction or failure due to filter . I’ve had several dozen vehicles in my life, I’ve always maintained them to the max, not one problem due to the brand of filter. The key is to change what ever filter you use regularly. If it makes you feel good that you pay big bucks for some brand filter, then by all means go for it.

 

I put a K&N Cabin Filter in mine, clean it twice a year and stick it back in.

 

Ditto this. My first cabin filters *might have been* OEM, but who remembers stuff like that nearly 18 years later?

Yank mine out blow it out with compressed air put it back in. Engine air filter have a look if it's clean put it back in used 2 in 155K.

 

This. OEM cabin every Spring and Fall. OEM air every 30k with a MAF spray and throttle body clean with new OEM o-ring. Good to go.
