I have a 2000 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6 motor. The other day I changed out the vacuum lines because the original ones were cracking pretty bad. Afterwards I noticed a ticking sound coming from this part that I don't remember hearing before. What is this part?

Evap canister purge valve. It gets opened by the pcm often just after startup. The ticking sound is caused by the type of signal it gets from the pcm. It's like a rapid open/close signal that controls the overall amount open time - pulse width modulation. Fuel injectors operate in a similar way

If you hear it doing its thing that can be a sign that the evap system is healthy, there's no fault codes stored and its working correctly

That green valve cap on the left hose is the test port where you could hook up a smoke tester and look for an evap leak. The hose on the right likely goes around the brake booster and into the intake manifold

    Mine always ticked.
First time I noticed it I thought it was valve train noise. Scared me

Yeah I bought a replacement one....and its a louder tick than the 1st....

Sitting in the driver seat....it sounds like a valve ticking 22Re engine....
