    Hi all,

noticed some drops on the driveway after a super hot week here in Ontario. Pic below looks like the oil pan seal, or other issue? 175,000KM on it and 2017. Looking for input before I take it in to avoid getting hosed

The whole pan looks soaked, definitely coming from above somewhere. With that mileage, I'd check valve covers... And of course the timing cover because why not. Does it read low on the dipstick?

Clean everything real good, and then keep an eye on it to confirm where the oil is coming from.

My Oil Pan Seal was leaking at 3,000 miles; and after cleaning and watching it, I discovered that the bolts on the rear side of the Pan were never tightened properly by the factory (they were very loose).

Gotcha that explains it... Like the other person mentioned, best bet is clean around where you suspect the leak and recheck it. Might have to take the hose out to get that stuff off tho!

Hope it's the oil pan. Timing chain cover is costly.

If I remember correctly, engine has to be pulled. 3k to 4k at dealer. There is a thread on it. Don't quote me on price. Been awhile since I saw that thread.

Timing chain sheared?, but it ran fine? Sounds impossible for that. Someone there doesn't have a clue.

Sure seems that way... Order of events.

Engine runs fine with minor leak -> shop does work -> engine gets blown.

Definitely was the a radiator, not the shop.

Ok, so they changed pan gasket and after the ran it and engine is now blown, bad timing chain? If that's the case, yes completely on them, but it's going to be a tough one to prove. Hopefully they work with you on this
Could be a long draw out battle.

This, did the idiot mechanic drive a screw drives in between pan and block to separate it. Drive the screw drive into timing chain.

Hard to believe that the chain did not jump the timing before the repair.

I am an ASE certified and Toyota certified mechanic. A couple things I know that are not true that have been said are the timing cover can be resealed in the truck. I have personally done at least 20 of them in the truck. Transmission does not have to be removed from engine to reseal timing cover. Also the timing cover does not have to come off to get either the upper or lower oil pans off. You actually have to remove the oil pans before the front timing cover can be removed. I agree it is very odd the truck ran fine before any repairs and then they said there are all these issues. With all the wrong information they have given you I would not trust much of what they say
