Factory UCA and more castor?

I am on factory suspension with no lift. Put on some -10 offset wheels wrapped in 265/70/17 and now I have a slight rub at full lock, backing up while turning, or slight turn over bumps/incline. I tried to get an alignment to see if I can eliminate or reduce the rubbing and was told by a shop that I had to get aftermarket UCAs because you can't add anymore castor to factory UCAs and made it seem like I had no idea what I was talking about. I am almost positive I've stumbled on a few threads mentioning you can squeeze more castor from factory UCAs.

Is the shop right and I have no clue what I am talking about?

 

depending on the shop a lot of them wont do an alignment outside of oem specs. did they give you a printout? There are a lot of budget friendly UCA's you can get to achieve more caster too that wont break the bank. Also mud flaps can be a factor too.

 

I didn't even go in yet. I just called to make an appointment and they advised me to not go and waste my money because if I wanted more castor I need to install aftermarket UCAs because you can't get anymore castor out of factory UCAs. I was under the assumption that you could get more castor from factory UCAs especially if you don't have a lift. I get it I won't see 4 or 5 degrees but I thought I could get maybe 1 more degree or something. Just to help reduce or even eliminate the slight rubbing I was getting.

 

I am running -12's with 265/70/17 General AT tires. I had the slightest rub at full lock. Ditched the stock mudflaps for a set of Rockblokz mudflaps. They have an option to cut them so they lay flat against the fender liner of the truck, making more room. Fixed my issue. If your not an off road guy and don't plan on crawling off road, I wouldn't invest in the UCA's. But if your are, your just getting started on the mod trail...

From my experience, if you have to tell a shop how to do it then you are better off going to another shop. I don't know much about alignments but I do know there is some adjustment that can be made. I have a 3" lift on 285/70/17 -12 offset with factory UCA. I was rubbing slightly at factory alignment specs. I had the shop put me at more of a positive caster which was actually out of factory spec and No more rub... So maybe there is a small amount of adjustment that can be made, that I don't know. But an adjustment can be made.

Well I do alignments here at my shop, I just did A off road TACO and got 5 positive degrees caster out of it. So I would say it is possible... Keep in mind that is not specs, the steering wheel will return faster as well with the caster set up like this but it will also handle better. [more stable]

 

I do have Rockblokz mudflaps with the oversize tire option cut out and I still slightly rub turning into the driveway.

The shop is an off road specific shop so I figured they'd know a bit about adding positive castor but they told me either get aftermarket UCAs or do a body mount chop. Seems a little excessive for a no lift and running 265/70/17s.

That's all I was looking for was slightly more positive castor to eliminate or reduce the rubbing.
