Hello TW members. After lifting my truck 2 inches it looks like it might be time to get new tires. I’ve done a ton of research but I’m still struggling to make a decision. I’m mostly a weekend warrior looking to do trails in the SoCal area. As much as I would like to stay with SL rated tires because of weight savings I think it would be smarter to get E rated tires for peace of mind on rocky trails (for example in death valley).

I really like the idea of going with 255/85/R16 for extra ground clearance but the price of tires like the Cooper St Maxx are ridiculous at more than $330 each. At this size it looks like the only viable option would be Wildpeak M/T’s which I can get for around $240 each. The alternative would be to go a bit smaller with 265/75/R16 which has many more options available. What would you guys pick between 255/85 Wildpeak MT’s and 265/75 Wildpeak AT3W’s? Both are basically the same price.

Any other suggestions are also welcome. Thanks in advance for your help.

Check out 235/85/16 while you’re at it. May not be the most appealing tire or wide enough to stick out and get mall points but they are an awesome tire. Granted they are all E rated but being skinny cuts down on their weight.

I did consider 235/85 but I don’t really get why you would pick them over 265/75. Aren’t they the same height and very close in weight?

    255/85/16 are a nice compromise between 265 and 285.
The price and limited options made me go 265/75/16.
    235/85 look ridiculously skinny imo.

Weight differences for both in E rated are significant enough to worry about. 235 is lighter that’s why I went with them.

My SR5 came with the 245/75/16. My 235’s in E are the same exact width as those toyo sl ‘s that came on it. Just looks like stock tires but taller.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
I’d go for the 265 AT3s out of those 2 choices. The AT3 is lighter and performs better in almost every situation. Both are E load so should be tough.
