Just FYI. The TRD skid plate doesn't fit on the Sport unless you remove the plastic wind valance.

Correct-u-mundo! (As Fonzie from Happy Days would say)

OEM parts removed to get the TRD Skid installed.

I rarely use my trucks off road and never rock crawling or anything close to that so I may just remove it and leave it off. I also could simply modify it myself, I have all the tools and equipment to do so it's just a question of is it worth it to me. Or I could do a remote conversion, the jury is still out at this point. I'll just install and new cartridge and O-ring and see if I still have a leak.

Well you got me there, I'm not skilled AND at an age where I can't do much of anything like this even if I could.

No leak? No problem. Just good practice to lube it up ;)

There's usually some oil up in the cavity, the seal gets wet as soon as it's in there and spinning

Completely off the wall, but this actually happened to me about two months ago; I experienced a leak due to a micro-crack in the oil filter drain 3/8 drive circle piece pictured above. No idea how it happened, but I couldn't even see any cracks. It took me getting under the truck and watching where the leak/drop was accumulating while the engine was on. It wouldn't leak until pressurized and up to heat, so it was hard to replicate at first. Ended up just buying another housing and using the new 3/8 drive drain plug from it. Not saying this is very likely to happen to anyone else, but it strangely happened to me, so might as well look and see.

Edit, nevermind; after reading your post over, sounds like your leak is originating from the seal (or lack of) of the actual housing since you can see it running down the side.

Imo, its more of a pita to go, and dispose of the old oil, then doing the actual oil change.

Did I miss the post where the reason for the leak was identified?

As I said in my first post, I hate that to have something done right, you have to do it yourself! As others surmised, the tech failed to change the O-ring but I am somewhat surprised that that while it wasn't leaking before the filter change, it was streaming oil out after being re-installed.
Picture taken while running after being warmed up - no leaks! And as I discovered, there's another reason to do these jobs yourself...Note the missing bolt!

And as I indicated earlier, I do have the skill for these tasks and more. This is my 550hp, 406sbc in my 65 vette, something I built from scratch myself and wouldn't let anyone else touch. I've owned it for over 40 years and in addition to building this motor, I have done everything on it from the wiring to the upholstery and even the paint.

I just wish I could trust others to handle mundane (and often messy) tasks proficiently. That being said, I do all the service on my 35DP motorhome but that's also because it's an hour drive to the Cummins facility and they charge close to a grand for it!

Love the Vette. Very few vehicles can rock the Canary Yellow.

Nice corvette! I’m another DIY’er on nearly everything aside from tires (and AC condenser on my taco last year). Every time I take something in it’s either done half way or something else gets damaged.

Thanks for the compliment. When I first bought it, it was a badly faded gold. Under that was metalflake turquoise (yea 1970's!) and beneath that was the original silver which incidentally I really dislike. That left me in a quandary - do I restore it to the original color and not be happy with it or do I repaint in another 1965 color. I was considering the 65 Sunflower Yellow but felt it was too pale. The answer came to me while I was in the middle of its restoration in 1978 - the yellow you see was introduced in Corvettes in that year.

Have an edit...checking out the C2 its beautiful. Is that a factory A/C car?

pdeinc, I'm 68 I just bite the bullet and get er done. Oil change is probably the most important routine or mundane task on the Tacoma. But like you I have very little faith in some dude or dudette, standing with an impact driver in their hands 90% of the job.
If you have built and maintained the vette for this long save yourself the grief just do it. Good job on the fix hope you got a new tube it does serve a purpose, also their is a company that sells a remote location kit for spin on filter or just an adapter for a spin on.

Yeah, I've decided to do them all once again. I did the first two myself and really disliked both removing the skid plate and the mess when opening the cartridge. I've since decided to leave the skid plate off and have learned that one can drain the canister before removing it. That last bit of ignorance is on me - I've done so many oil changes in my life that I didn't figure I needed to look online for info on doing this one. Now I know how to use that plastic spigot to drain the canister first.
