So, with this being the last year of the 3rd gen, I'm highly considering picking up a new manual. I bought my 2016 new and have spent my share of cash on it. I'm struggling on whether or not to pick up a new 3rd gen manual....I cut my teeth on manuals and this is one of the first autos I've owned. Time is ticking....should I just stay content with what I have and no payment or step into a new manual (if I can still find/get one)? I wish I could do both but that's not possible. I really struggle with this. New is nice, but not necessary, which is what I keep telling myself.

There's always Wrangler and Bronco if you must have a new manual 4x4 in the future. You can always buy a used manual Tacoma.

I wouldn't get rid of a truck I'm content with just to go from auto to manual, obviously I don't really want to drive a,manual 4x4 truck. My 2nd gen would be more fun with a 5spd but I opted for the auto when I bought it over a decade ago. I haven't been bothered by it one bit.

If you want a new truck just have a new truck that's a different story. Then go with the manual good luck finding a manual with out paying a premium. You might as well get a Sport AC while you are at it, rarest of the rare for 2023. Don't tell the 2023 Pro owners.

    The ups.
    1. Lower maintenance costs on a new one than a 7 year old one.
    2. Less bugs to work out with a vehicle that’s been the same for 7 years (4 years for the addition features).
    3. Additional features like better drivers seat, safety features and adaptive cruise control (manual).
    4. Do you have the exact model and features that you want? Maybe hold out for exactly what you want.
    5. Your truck can go to someone who may not be able to afford a new one and would appreciate this one.

    The downs.
    One, cost.

Number 2, having the bugs out of an already reliable vehicle was paramount to me. Oh, I like the idea of a manual but I don’t see myself buying a vehicle without ACC and I don’t think I’d want to fiddle with ACC on a manual. Good luck with whatever you decide, and your ‘16 is a great looking vehicle.

It looks like well taken care of, if it’s got reasonable to low miles, I’d just keep what you have. Nothing is perfect, I’d rather drive a nice newish paid off truck with lower insurance and property taxes, then go for the shiny new object. As soon as the newness wears off, you’re in the same truck with more money being paid out.

Ya, it's in good shape. Recently put 4.88's, a Dobinsons MRR lift, OTT and some other stuff. I have for sure spent a lot on it, done oil changes every 5k, and all the service stuff early. It has 87k on it. I should probably just keep it really. I have front and rear SSO full plate bumpers, just haven't put them on.

87k on a well maintained Toyota; I’d just keep it for another 5-10 years at least, but the choice is yours my friend.

No, the opposite actually. Driving a stick as a teenager and early to mid 20’s was fun. After that? It doesn’t have the same effect. That’s just my opinion.

I turned in my 2016 AT for a 2020 MT. No regrets. The manual is just so much more fun drive.

Ironically, I don’t have any of the complaints about the AT like you hear on here so much. I thought it was probably the best AT I ever owned (CAVEAT: last AT was in the 1990s). I just like manuals better.

I live in the city too. It has no impact on my decision to drive a manual. I think some people thinks it’s annoying to drive a manual in stop and go traffic and there is some truth to that, but I think it’s 95% just as annoying in an auto.

You can mitigate the amount of shifting by putting it in 1st and creeping forward at a constant speed instead of maintaining a constant distance with the person in front of you. If an anything, the manual gives you something to do while stuck in traffic.

Why did I allow myself to get drug into another auto vs manual debate. I must be bored. I need something to shift to get out of the doldrums.

I like driving a manual but wouldn't touch a truck made in the last 30 years that had a manual in it. The engines and gearing in newer trucks are designed with automatics in mind. If you need to tow or haul any weight a manual is a huge disadvantage when put in newer trucks.
