Like others have said, be realistic about what you need them for. I fall into the forest roads and light trails category. I have the trd engine skid, okx transmission skid and cali raised sliders. I got them for "accidents" or oopsies and they have payed for themselves multiple times. The only real downside to having armour is you're more likely to go places or pick lines you otherwise wouldn't.

These are my skids after 2 years and maybe a dozen trails and a few solid oopsies.

It's my daily driver but I do light off roading. I was just thinking of replacing the front skid to something better. I already have sliders.

TRD Pro is better than OEM. Some say steel is worth the extra weight. Regardless, get an drain valve (https://www.fumotousa.com/cars-pickups-toyota-2022-tacoma-3-5l-v6 , I got the F133S), drain hose, and ask about the F-lock to lock the lever when offroad. Install when you change the skid plate and the drain tube keeps oil off the skid in later changes.

Use this (https://www.motivxtools.com) and a drain tube to bypass the skid plate when changing oil filter.

My TRD skid held up decent over 500+Km of wheeling. I ended up going to an RCI Steel skid due to me wheeling harder.

A good spotter is better than a skid. Just saying.

It's a mostly stock TRD pro so it has the fox suspension. Sits 1inch taller than a trd offroad. Also running skinny 33's.

#1: Transfer Case: It's tucked away pretty good up there in its spot, but it's cast aluminum. (a really awesome looking and nicely finished casting.... but it makes me nervous) Especially the replacement price. (If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it.) It should be cast-iron: I don't care how much it weighs. (Q: Does the/any Land Cruiser have a cast-iron transfer case?) I'm thinking they must....

If I were to do it over again, instead of buying a steel trio and not really using them to their full potential, I would have just gotten the TRD aluminum skid. It would have been sufficient for the light offroad stuff I sometimes do, and saved alot of unneeded weight. I'd recommend starting with it. If you find yourself in situations where you'd prefer steel, then list it up for sale and upgrade. Or do the opposite; over build it, and it meet your needs, possibly toying with the idea of selling them later for something less.

I'd just be honest with yourself at the end of the day. Its hard to do.. But if you look at your sliders and they have zero scuffs on them, something like a steel skid trio "could" be a little overkill.

Pro tip: The most important skids are the one's not left in your underwear.
