Hello, I've searched and read this forum for years now, but finally became a member.
I will be getting my 3rd "toy" -> Toyota truck tomorrow, so I'm a little excited.

My first "toy" was a 1990 4x4 Xtracab pickup with manual transmission (before Tacoma's even existed). I bought it used in 1994 and kept it until 2017 (yes it was 27 years old). It was a great truck, and I still miss it dearly.

In 2016 I got my first true Tacoma - a used 2006 TRD Off-Road Access Cab. And yes, everyone made fun of me for it basically being the same color as the previous one (not on purpose). When I got it, it had just gone through the Frame Replacement recall (for rusting problems), thus it had a brand new frame under it. For me that was a great start with this truck, but unfortunately it had a sad ending where it was totalled this year (Jan 2023). But it kept me safe and I'm very grateful.

That brought me to look for my next perfect truck - and this time it's not Red LOL (that was on purpose). I'm getting a gently used 2021 TRD Sport Double Cab with 6ft bed.
I've been searching through this forum and looking at all the cool upgrades that you all have done, and I'm shopping for my upgrades already (even before I have the truck). Will be adding the Bed Light Kit, the Remote Tailgate Lock, a Hard Tonneau Cover, and who knows what else. It currently has the OEM Soft Tonneau Cover -> so if anyone is near/west St. Louis, MO area let me know and you can pick up this Soft Cover for cheap (and I'll even help you put it on).

And just a general thanks out to this forum - this has so much useful information from everyone who contributes. I hope to add some good information myself.

All of 'em look super. My Dad had one very similar to your 1990. Great memories of that truck.

Congrats and welcome! I had an 89 SR5 XtraCab 4x4 and it was a great truck. Can’t believe how small the XtraCab looks next to the 2006. Hope you enjoy your new Taco, in spite of the neighbors you’re surrounded by!

The size difference between the '90 and the '06 was/is significant - and yes I like to show this picture because of the difference. In the '90 I was "very" close to the passenger - especially because it was a manual and shifting throught the gears, then I got the '06 and it almost felt weird that I could put my right arm on the center console and have room.
As far as the neighbors (Ugghh), the one neighbor has a Tundra and he loves it (has had it for over 10 years so far). The rest of them - well..... I'm just glad I don't have the car problems that they do.
