I’d say mine is usually closer to those temps too. But it will get up to operating temp if I get on the highway. Although mine does seem to run hotter than others? Not sure what would cause that

Painted and installed the Relentless Fabrication non-wraparound rear bumper this weekend. Compared to the stock bumper and a Draw-tite hitch, the Relentless provided 10-15 lbs of weight reduction and raised the trailer hitch adapter around 2.5 inches.

    Bone stock so far!
Yesterday was fun. Swapped in new spark plugs, wires, and boots. Put in some new headlights. Was some quality bonding time. The how-to writeup on spark plugs made it super easy, and the Intermotor kit from RockAuto seems very high quality. Seems the previous owner got his use out of the factory plugs, I pulled out half NGK and half Denso, they were about 60K m overdue XDIMG_2431.jpgIMG_2439.jpg70405676618__A3333C21-D368-4FDC-83CE-8FA8A647D269.jpgIMG_2441.jpgIMG_2445.jpgIMG_2448.jpg

That's my highway temp. Going up passes I rarely break 185 these days.

I did cook it good doing Morrison though one year when it was like 100° ambient out. Took forever to cool it down in that situation though.

Yeah I found that once I divorced it from the radiator, the cooler is much better at dropping the temps when I spike it. Before it would get hot and take forever to cool off.

Watched it today on my drive to work. Sat at 109-114 at 65mph today.

Stays pretty damn cool for me. Other than that one extreme example.

AA650BA8-1349-4698-92C0-4CEDA7E626ED.jpg Ok so talking temps, from trans temp to coolant temp. Not today but Saturday with the new build got a shroud made to help with temps. Drove it home and hit some grades. She climbed to 194*F under decent load then dropped back down to 188 then stayed at normal 185-186. She’s running auto trans with stock gears, 35s and some added weight… I kept with flow of traffic 70-75mph. Temps off an ultragauge, what is normal/acceptable high range for these 3.4l under load? I would wager that it would climb a bit higher when ambient temp is higher such as out in desert and getting after it. Re-gear while help with engine not working as hard.

    any thoughts or comments?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Those coolant temps you're getting are 100% normal. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Not sure re-gear would even change that to much.

I'm not saying there aren't benefits to re-gear (I'm 5.29 with 35s). I'm just saying I don't think it would change your engine temps much.

    215*F max, shouldn’t see that

Been a bit since I’ve had an operational 1st gen… about 8 years but who was counting

South Carlsbad state beach campground. Ya it’s a sweet spot right on the cliff but with a rocky beach.
