I really don’t like how this black side molding/bumper looks. Anyone have experience or ideas deleting it?

I pried off an inch or two and it was taking large amounts of paint with it. Not gonna have my doors repainted after removing.

Think I can mask it off, sand it and rattle can? I don’t care if the color doesn’t perfectly match. I just don’t want it flaking off in a couple months etc.. maybe white truck bed liner would stick better and look like a more intentional non color match. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure on the best way to budget repaint, but to take it off, heat it up with a heat gun if you have one or a hair dryer if you have not tried that yet. Be careful not to burn it though.

Find a good bedliner business or an experienced backyard bed-liner (who does proper prep) and do a white bed line to the body line, or close to. You could sand and repaint on your own if you have the savvy and you can make sure you do it properly so you avoid flaking then get a proper clear coat back on it and put some thick as hell vinyl wrap on it for extra protection?

I dont have anything to add directly to your question but 1)I had a 1st gen Explorer and its wild how much it looked like your 4R from the front wheel back with that molding and 2) really dig the Tacoma wheels on there. You dont see wheels go from Taco to 4R often
