I've got. 97 4x4 manual transmission and manual transfer case. I have 4low but no 4 high. Light does not come on in 4 high and it doesn't really feel like it's engaging when I go down from 2h to 4h. 4 low feels and preforms fine. I'm assuming the transfer case will need work but before I attempt that is there something else to check? Thanks for any help.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Had you pulled the T case shifter for any reason .

Did 4 High ever work ? If so how did you reach this point.

I think a shifter issue before anything else unless your having very strange noises from the case.

Have you disconnected the plugs? The 4wd and the 4lo plugs on the transfer case can be swapped. The 4wd dash light is indicated from the ADD circuit which is activated by the 4wd sensor on the tcase.

Have you actually verified that it's not working? Is the front driveshaft spinning? Are any of the front axles spinning? Jack up the truck and check out all of the above. Work your way backwards from the tires to the TC.

Yes I have verified that the front wheels are not spinning. They do spin in 4 low but 4 hi is the same as 2 hi. I've had the truck for a little over a year and the 4 hi worked. Last time I used it was last fall and it worked and a couple weeks ago when I tried it it quit. Only 4 low works. I have not pulled the shifter or plugs or anything.
