I have a 2020 TRD Offroad with Tech package.

Up until yesterday, the PCS had never even beeped at me before, but I at least knew it was in the "ON" position. I had deemed it rather useless.

Yesterday, a car pulled out in front of the car in front of me, and the driver in front of me slammed their brakes. This all happened within the <2 seconds that I decided to swap CarPlay to a different album... PCS alerted and automatically applied my brakes. Rear tires screeched and then I took over the braking and skidded to a stop with ~ 5 feet to spare.

PCS saved my ass. I did not know the PCS could apply the brakes on its own, and if you didn't know that either - now you do. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with the PCS & TSS as a whole.

FYI, I went into the settings afterwards and adjusted it to the maximum sensitivity

What sensitivity do y'all keep it on? And does anybody have a story similar to mine?

Merging on the interstate and as I looked back to see if it's clear the car on the on ramp in front of me decided to stop and look. Started beeping and dashboard said "brake" and slowed down

Well… I have another view of it… I think it works as long as you don’t touch the pedal.. like you are really distracted.

i was at a yellow light and lady in front of me looked like she was going to give it a go but chickened out at last minute and hard brake. It got me distracted and brakes where automatically applied but as soon as touched pedal it disengaged and I did not depressed the pedal all the way in and I hit her.. it was minor. Broken tab on black front part of bumper..

i might be wrong but that is how it felt. As soon as I touched pedal, it stopped braking and when I pressed pedal more it was too late… like braking-not braking-braking again.

It works well for pedestrians as well ..
Shortly after I bought my wife her 2017 RAV4, an old man in a powered chair rolled out in front of her from an apartment complex and the sensor applied the brakes & screamed at her. She missed to old man by a few feet & he probably never knew he was close to being hit.

If I am aware and trying to brake, it should yield control. If I am literally asleep at the wheel, let it be in control.

The beeping is annoying, but a good kind of annoying.

Someone will be on shortly to say they would rather die torn to pieces in a fiery death than have a nanny truck hit the brakes for them.

Personally I kind of like it, it works well.

i think the right balance is in play. if i am trying to take control of the truck, it better let go until it determines there is no hope of avoidance.
for the occasional annoyance of it beeping just as i was about to brake, a small price to pay for what it does.
if you touch a pedal or swerve, it is up to you to control things once it lets go. tapping the brake in an emergency situation is not being responsible.
i believe it does not totally let go if you tap the brake. it gives you a chance but steps in again if collision remains imminent.

    from the manual:
●The pre-collision braking function may not operate if certain operations are
performed by the driver. If the accelerator pedal is being depressed
strongly or the steering wheel is being turned, the system may determine
that the driver is taking evasive action and possibly prevent the pre-collision
    braking function from operating.
●In some situations, while the pre-collision braking function is operating,
operation of the function may be canceled if the accelerator pedal is
depressed strongly or the steering wheel is turned and the system determines
that the driver is taking evasive action.
●If the brake pedal is being depressed, the system may determine that the
driver is taking evasive action and possibly delay the operation timing of
    the pre-collision braking function.

Had mine go off once when some clown pulled out right in front of me, definitely works.

Pro Tip: you can tell CarPlay what you want to listen to, thus never having to look at the radio.

well..post i was about to reply to just got modded but no point in denying thread this wisdom :)

there's an idea. in the future, Toyota AI will determine if your scream is in terror or you are just being an idiot. If it is terror, it apply the brakes.
when you first buy the truck, you are asked to scream for several hypothetical situations so it can analyze to apply in real situations.
i'm just procrastinating getting some chainsaws running...putting down the keyboard.

I had it beep when a lady pulled out in front of me a few days ago. I hit the pedal with my foot after the 1st beep and the second beep at the instant my foot mashed the brake. I was proud of my reflexes!

There are jokes I could make about upgrades to the PCS, but they are inappropriate in this thread. Save for a Friday-thread.

Some people don't understand the difference between using tech good and using tech bad. A few days ago a guy was posting how well his radar cruise worked in the rain. Most did not denounce the tech, they denounced the guy driving with cruise on in the rain.
In this case, in my opinion, having tech save your ass at the last second is great. It is not intrusive. It only applies the brakes, not the gas. It does not steer. It just fucking stops.

And to clarify my "literally asleep at the wheel" comment ... I am by no means advocating that. In fact if I catch myself in that state I pull over in a safe place as soon as possible, even if just a rest stop or tiny-exit gas station. Just because it saved you once does not mean you deserve a second "saving" if you do not learn.

My experience with this is while driving in the left lane (yes I was passing vehicles) there was a semi in the right lane, there was a left bend, well the sensor must've sensed it taking the turn while I was approaching the bend and the damn thing started beeping at me, dash flashing BRAKE. The truck wasn't even in my lane. And I'm glad it didn't hit the brakes to check up the others in my lane ready to pass this semi also.

My biggest fear is the system false-alarming and slamming the brakes for no good reason (and then getting rearended by the car behind me). Several times its started beeping and "BRAKE!" on the display with nobody at all in front of me. So far the system has never actually applied the brakes, but I still wonder if it ever will when it shouldn't.

I actually had thoughts of setting up a foam board cutout of a car (backed with aluminum foil if needed to reflect the radar) in an open area and driving at it (or having someone push it into my path) at various speeds just to test and see what the system's behavior would be, but so far I haven't mustered up enough ambition to do it just yet.
