I purchased my 2012 Tacoma with access doors in Oct. 2022. I've always wanted one and I spotted it on a local small dealer lot with less than 100,000 miles on it. So of course I wanted to snatch it up ! I do love my truck ! Recently the temperature went, even though the fan was blowing & the temperature was in the middle, I had no heat. Took it back to where I purchased it, picked up the same day & I have heat. Now the mechanic has called to tell me that my coolant system needs flushed. Ok, no big deal. Until I asked how much. $250-$300 ! No, I will flush it myself for way less, Thanks anyways !
So any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated !!

Hey welcome aboard. No idea what your experience is mechanically, but I'd recommended multiple things.

    1. make sure the complete system block and heater core are flushed, use only Toyota spec coolant.
    2. change all the coolant hose you can.
    3. new thermostat

    Complete brake service.

Front pads specify Akebono pads, which are Lexus spec. Rears stay OEM but make sure they are cleaned and the adjuster is operating correctly.

Welcome to TW. Nobody here knows exactly what you bought or what may or may not need to be replaced. Try to find a reputable mechanic that you can trust and have them look things over for you. I would stay away from dealerships.

The fact that a Toyota overheated indicates some neglect or failure in the coolant system. Which raises doubt about all systems needing routine service.

100k mi is only through 1/3 of life expectancy.

OP do you have any service records from it at all?

You can create an account at Toyota and look up your VIN to see any dealer performed service also.

    Automatic or manual?

    2WD or 4WD?

Also look up the known issue of secondary air injection pump. If it fails it can strand you in limp mode. I belive there was either a recall or TSB for the 2012 year. That will also be on the Toyota site.
