LS6 Swap 2nd Gen Build + New Tundra

Gonna talk it over with 454 but it’s looking like the path we’re going to take. Makes his life easier.

 

There wasn’t one, this whole truck is retarded. It started off as promising to myself I wasn’t going to modify it and here we are. I did things in steps over the past year and a half, everything’s just coming to fruition at the same time. Slowly bought bits and pieces when it wasn’t totally financially stupid to do so until I had it all. Being real, nothing about it has been financially smart, nothing about modifying vehicles is but that’s not the reason we do it.

 

Trevor at 454 is killing it. Bump cans are in.

I’m actually upset that you made me count it all up because it’s easy to justify all the small purchases separately but when you count it up it’s pretty pathetic. I have a problem.

Man I been following this on the tube. I knew you had to be lurking on here somewhere. Sweet build. How did it handle in the curves, do you think the added weight up front will throw off the handling?

 

Actually some have said the aluminum 5.3 *could* be lighter than the cast iron 2TR block with Magnuson supercharger bolted to the CNC aluminum intake manifold.
OP please reply about this as I don’t want to invade your tread. Just thought I would share being we are the opposite ends. Plus believe it or not I’m running stock front springs on DIY Viking coil-overs. I have a set of five lug Access Cab front springs that are definitely stiffer but we don’t know what the weight difference is yet. I used a set of lowing mounts sold by SOS / Tundra Racing for lowering the front of an X-runner. I had mounts machined out about .200” more in Dia. & by about .250” deep at a bottom so the spring mount / perch would not contact the aluminum treads on the shock.

 

454 Motorsports up north is doing all the fab work. He’s incredible at what he does.

As for the motor mounts @allenfab is also an incredible fabricator and welder, plus @tacotunner06 has his Tacoma all Pre-Runner out, check out their builds and there are others too.

Andy the gentleman who doing mine is trying to get someone to come on board with a kit to weld in for motor mounts / engine cradle and transmission mounts. He’s been talking to; about maybe coming on board. I really think with all the Long Travel guys and others their may be a market for such a kit. We all love our Tacoma’s because they are just so dependable vehicles but I think we all can admit it the Tacoma power plants could use some more HP. Trust me I thought about a double over head cam Toyota V8 engine but they are just so big. Plus the LS aftermarket support is just so incredible. When you see someone LS swap a front wheel drive MINI copper you know everything else must be a cake walk. We owned a MINI and talked about stuffing 10 lbs of potatoes in a 5 lbs bag.

So guys if we all like to show support about LS swapping your Taco please do all that subscribe, like and other BS YouTube likes to see. If we can show enough interest we might get some to jump on board. It would be so cool to be able to purchase a weld in kit for the LS / LT and a good wiring harness. I’ve asked a lot of questions about power steering pump from a GM to a Toyota rack. The one gentleman who I was told to call said the GM pump would be an upgrade for the Tacoma rack. This company did nothing but power steering systems for trophy trucks & off-road racer’s. So I figured he knew what he was talking about. It’s amazing how some companies will withhold information and others will act like you’re their new best friend when you ask for information to do something off the wall… I would be as kind as I could and tell them I’m doing something out there. You explain what you’re trying to accomplish and many times they would say that should be so cool please send me pictures when you’re done. Gear heads stick together for the most part…

 

@tacotunner06 has helped me more on this project than I can thank him for. He got me a set of motor mount files that I had made from sendcutsend, helped me out with planning and everything. Super great dude.

Does Andy have any of these kits ready to go? One thing I haven't done yet is the transmission cradle, I always planned on using the factory crossmember and modifying it to fit the GM trans. Looks like it lines up really well. I don't imagine he has any of those kits yet, but if he did Id be interested.

There would definitely be a market for it. Biggest issues I think everyone has run into are oil pan clearance, motor mounts, and transmission mounts.

Yeah, usually gearheads do stick together, it's the pretentious ones that don't.

Yes! Chris / @tacotunner06 is a very good guy he’s given me more information than I could ever retain!

Andy specialty is more or less good at wiring and trying to help others with issues that they may come up with.
Andy is trying to get someone on board with motor & transmission mounts. Once someone figures out where the engine should basically set, it shouldn’t be to difficult. Most everyone I’ve seen LS swap cuts of the stock motor mounts, welds a plate to the frame to spread out the weight distribution. Then excuse my definition for this wording welds on two long ears / tabs from the frame to a round / tube shaped urethane mount that bolts to the LS engine mount/s just like Chris & Todd did.
As for the oil pan Chris & I thought this shape of pan in the link below *may* work best for my setup. (I got a Chinese copy and it’s awesome especially for the cost) But if you’re going to be hitting the trails hard I would suggest getting a pan with baffles. We don’t want to starve the engine of oil and get rod knock‼️ That’s a bad thing. I did come across a bolt in kit that had windage trays that would let oil in but not out. But for the life of me I can’t find it again. Yes please what ever you do please be careful of oil starvation.

Im just starting one but I’m kind of going backwards with it and truthfully I’m not very good at explaining things but I’m trying.

I hate trying to be a salesman but the more you guys can get interest on Andy channel or anything showing interest the better chance we can get someone on board. I’m sure we are starting off like the Nissan 240 SX, 240/260/280Z’s, BRZ, FRS & Toyota 86 guys and all the other import guys had to do is show interest in LS swapping a particular vehicle.
I’m all ears if anyone has any suggestions!

Don't apologize, a lot of good info was shared here, going to start watching those videos.

I have a pan of that style with baffles, but instead of a filter housing being built in I have a relocation kit for it. Might do a little bit of modification to it to give me some room away from my front diff, but you won't have that issue being 2WD.

Dry sump would be ideal, but really expensive.

Axles are in. Tiny bit of binding at full droop but 454’s going to strap it just before it binds.

waiting on the custom length tie rods from JD.

Something got mixed up with shipping but they’re making it right and whipped up a new set and shipped them out. Plus respect. 454 also ordered a set of their inner fenders to install.
