    I think what he’s saying is, is that there is instinct and then there is assessed instinct, and imo the latter should always be prioritized. Instinct without an assessment is dangerous as well as useless, imo.

    I was driving on a freeway years ago, 65 MPH. There was *some* plate-like thing in the lane ahead. I assessed that serving into side lanes (even though traffic was light and I was basically "isolated" at the time) was not good. I thought "no damage". Turns out my splash guard on a Corolla was ripped away and the accessory belt rotted away from the water splashes over 6 months.

    "Assessed instinct" is my vote.
