I’m getting an intermittent vibration at speeds between 25-40 mph. The truck will shake almost as if it’s driving over rumble strips. My mechanic thought it could be the transmission. I took it to a reputable transmission shop and they could find nothing wrong with transmission. Transmission shop said it must be carrier bearing. My mechanic replaced carrier bearing and u-joint and the vibration is still present. We are clueless as to what could be causing this issue. Going to try more tests to try to diagnose but was wondering if anyone may have some ideas. Thank you

I’ll check to see if I’m missing any weights.. but I just had an alignment and all new tires about 5,000 miles ago. Hadn’t had a problem until now

We’ve ruled out u-joints. Service bulletins also mention torque converter calibration and leaf springs. If torque converter was out of wack wouldn’t the transmission shop have caught it?

Drive it in 4th gear and see if the rumble is still there.

Unfortunately, that’s a classic symptom of a bad torque converter.
It’s not all that uncommon on this generation truck.
You can add some LubeGuard and hope it goes away.
If not, you’re looking at a new converter.

To further diagnosis it, I’ll quote our resident forum guru @gearcruncher

Thanks for the info. I’ve done some serious digging and I think I’m going to start by adding some shudder fix. I may go ahead and replace fluid with something more quality and add lubegard

Update: Put a tube of shudder fix into the transmission last night and so far today have driven 200 miles with no signs of shudder. I spilled almost all of the first tube of shudder fix so I had to go back for a second one. Got a marinade syringe and aquarium tubing from Walmart and used that to get the shudder fix into the transmission. Worked like a charm. Also bought a bottle of lubegard platinum in case I want to change transmission fluid in the near future. Shop wants $350 for a drain and fill so I think I will be doing that myself when the time comes. For someone who is normally skeptical of additives, it’s safe to say I’m now a lubegard fan

You might want to consider dropping the pan. Clean it and the magnets and change the filter. Then you can do your fluid change knowing there's no sludge to stir up in the pan. Pretty easy to do on these.
