    2022 Tacoma Trail Edition
    Hi All-

Winter 21/22 ended with the worst mud season in VT since 40 years, they say. I flogged our 2015 Outback up the mud roads but it was clear we needed a truck.

Last fall I purchased a 2022 SR5 Trail Edition Lunar Rock. It took 4 months to order, the selection was limited, and as the must-have was the diff-lock here's where I ended up.
So far I've made the following changes:
    • Dealer mini-lift.
    • Delete bed cargo boxes, add hard bed cover.
    • Black Matte respray of 'heritage' radiator grille text. The copper color was terrible.
    • Woolwax. After a lifetime of having cars rust away I bought a spray kit and am impressed so far. No parts of the undercarriage got that orange flash rust over winter. Also it smelled good when I applied it, and it's essentially Bag Balm- a side product from making wool- good for skin. Same stuff you use fishing to ward off jellyfish stings!
    • RCI 3 skid plate set. Some of the poorly drained dirt roads turn to soup, and even if you try to stay on the high points you end up surfing. I bought the rear diff skid plate as well, which I've decided I don't need, in case someone needs one.
    • Leatherseats.com Carbon Fiber Seat Heater - Bought for both sides but only installed driver's side. Hog ring pliers work was a total pain and wifey doesn't care enough. So I have an extra kit (heaters, switch, wiring) if someone's interested.
    • 75192 steel rims, used/new for summer tires. Winter tires ended up on the weird copper honeycomb alloy rims. I like the steelies better.
It needs some better valved shocks: at highway speeds it tends to wallow with moderate loads, and on washboard it doesn't react fast enough. If this were Type 2 VW I'd say Bilstein.

With over 10,000 miles on it, I'm really enjoying the truck.

    cheers,

    RL
