The steering in my '01 Double Cab PreRunner feels a bit loose. The only component I've found that might be an issues is the outer tie rod ends. Ball joints and control arms all feel tight and I recently replaced the steering rack bushings. I can't really feel any play in the tie rod ends, but I can rotate the rod pretty easily with my hand, as shown in the video that I can't get to embed in this post: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/uWzr9Voe5_U

I'm thinking they should be replaced (both sides act this same way), but I haven't inspected all that many tie rod ends.

    Thanks!

That’s not a great test. Try turning the steering wheel for back and forth between 9 and 3 o’clock while recording various places in the steering. If the TREs are bad you’ll see them move a little while the steering knuckle stays put. You can also check the rack and LCAs.

Yeah, I didn't think this was the best. :) I've been under the truck while someone else has move the steering wheel and I haven't been able to see anything obvious, but I'll give it one more try. I was looking for play in the steering intermediate shaft yesterday and couldn't find anything there either.
    Thanks.

Was under the truck today while someone else moved the steering wheel back and forth. I couldn't see any play in any of the components, except maybe the steering shaft itself. But even when placing wrenches on either side of the joints in the shaft, I couldn't produce any play. Inner tie rods or something inside the steering rack itself?
