More likely, Ford holds a patent on the design of the cluster of buttons in terms of how their mechanisms work and the shape of the buttons. The actual function arrangement would be very hard to defend and likely is not patent-able.

 

If and when I consider another new truck, I will definitely look at how many buttons and doodads I DO NOT WANT. More crap to break. My wife's Tesla M3 only has a couple of buttons on her steering wheel.
Most recent update has added more voice controls as if I care to look at the update information. "Tesla, scratch my butt" I have a reservation in for the Tesla Cybertruck, if and when my order comes up...I'll consider
buying another Tacoma or the Cybertruck.
