Is there anyway to increase the performance on a 2023 Toyota Tacoma 3.5l without spending 7k on a procharger or supercharger? Can I get a tuner for the truck and get better gas mileage? If so what do you recommend?

You are driving the wrong vehicle if fuel economy is your main concern. There is no foolproof way to get better fuel economy, other than keeping up with maintenance.

As for supercharger, most feedback on here is that the performance is not worth the cost. You bought a Tacoma, not a Raptor.

If you use the search function, you will find many threads on these topics.

I've never heard of anything like that to make your gas mileage noticeably better. The savings in gas mileage will be negated by the cost unless you're putting on a lot of miles. I know there are tuners for more power, just don't see much for gas mileage. With all the standards and fuel efficiency pressure manufacturers get, I'd be willing to guess they're getting pretty damn close to the best possible gas mileage without sacrificing reliability. Just my 2 cents.

you can run higher octane fuel so the truck will advance the timing more. good for several HP.

not sure why you think it's a joke. because you don't understand how knock sensors work? my truck knocks on 87, retards timing, then that results in reduced power and performance (and lots of gear hunting). it does great on 89-91.

Sorry, I can’t read. I thought you said improved mpg’s.

Note to self, don’t watch tv and post at the same time.

    You have conflicting goals here.

A SC will RUIN fuel economy.

A tune can help with drivability and not negatively impact fuel economy. It will not add a lot of power and will also not dramatically increase fuel economy.

Frankly, this is entirely the wrong vehicle if you want power and efficiency. A F150 Hybrid would give you both and is a great truck, the Tacoma is for entirely different reasons.

Another one that bought a tacoma for the wrong reason. Imo, leaving it bone stock will get you the best fuel economy.

Yes. Longtime chevy/muscle/some-honda perf-head here, never would I think of forced induction as an MPG fix.

My Corolla got 30 MPG reliably, but did not go off-road where I wanted to be. The sticker on the Tacoma was crystal clear on MPG.

I watch "current MPG" not to try making 30 MPG again, but to learn how to keep it higher than 16. I long ago abandoned any thought of 25 MPG except for MAYBE long freeway road trips.

MAYBE (key word) back in the day that might have helped a little bit in some vehicles. But then weigh out the cost versus the savings weekly and see how long it takes to make financial sense.

Your cheapest option for more power is to roll the windows down and flap your arms, then roll them back up for improved fuel economy.

The SC actually had very little effect on the fuel economy of my 3rd gen under normal daily driving conditions. It was obviously less efficient when driving hard and more expensive to fuel with premium but it didn’t ruin the mpg numbers by any means.

A disciplined right foot. But discipline is generally not foolproof. More power - more right foot. Better mileage- less right foot (and that includes braking).

Increase your tire air pressure helps, but will wear out your tires faster and it will ride bumpier. I run higher air pressure because I don't care if I wear out the OEM tires quicker. But, like everyone said, you're driving a truck, not a car. You will have to live with it.

My evaluation of "better MPG" has changed in my later years, and especially these last few months.

People spend $45K for the EV version of a $25K vehicle to get 4 more MPG (than pure-gas) under ideal situations (hybrid) or triple (or more) their electric bill to get "equivalent MPG" of 250 miles max per charge (pure EV). All to replace a 2-year-old gas vehicle that is easier to replace a "full charge".

Yes ... the math is mind-boggling comparing unlike worlds. And all when 30 MPG in a Corolla/Civic is pathetic considering society has had 100+ years to make significantly more efficient engines.

I am not looking to start a political debate. I am just pointing out that some people make ridiculous comparisons and insane vehicles purchases chasing 3 MPG. They could save money just avoiding jackrabbit starts, avoiding tailgating/braking/re-accelerating when they could recognize they still have 5 miles to destination, avoiding drive 85 on the freeway for the next 5 hours when 65 works because of driving rests, etc.

You bought a truck. Camry will make more MPG, as will Accord, Civic, Corolla, Versa, MiniCoopers, Outback, Forester and a hundred others. Sell the truck, buy a Prius.
