I for sure did not want force induction. I rather have a NA engine for long term reliability

I do worry about the reliability of forced induction engines. Having said that, they have much better low end torque. I'm thinking about adding a Magnuson supercharger to my 3rd gen once the factory warranty expires. All four of my kids' cars (three Hondas, one Hyundai) have turbo-charged engines and they will all blow my Tacoma away from a stop.

The turbos Toyota use are variable speed so they're not spinning 100% rpm all the time.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Cool. Remember that the 1grfe and 5vz were at some point the new not tried and true engine. And look at them easily doing 1M miles.

I figure if anyone can do turbos and make them reliable it's going to be Toyota.

I think you are right. Mind you the 22 Tundra did have a few wastegate problems. I think that is all sorted out now

Yeah, I'm actually excited. I bought mine thinking they'd ditch the manual transmission. I don't think I'll be trading it in for sure and even if I do not anytime soon. I want to wait until they've worked the bugs out and until prices settle down. I'm sure at first markups will be insane. I got my TRD Pro for MSRP. I for one refuse to pay markups.

A Toyota truck with manual and 4cyl turbo? Now I’ve seen that somewhere…

Next Tues prediction: recirculating ball steering and in-dash equalizer.

I'm not as worried about the turbos as the engine itself at this point, there is not a day that goes by that I don't read about someones Tundra dropping an engine or transmission it seems. I guess one positive is, that they are not gonna be built in the same factory as the Tundra.

I think with the Tacoma engine being in the Highlander Crown and NX that we will hear about the problems soon. Is the Tundra 3.5 the same engine base as ours?

Made me realize my 2016 base SR model with a manual 3rd gen is considered "old days"...

Old days weren’t that long ago! :D

iirc 2018 was the last year manual trans 4 cylinder SR.

I wanted a SR ACLB V6 manny, with the utility package (rear seat delete). Does not exist.

Just saw pic and thought nah. Too generic. Lol. Especially based on last lip stick pic they shared I thought it would be some roof spoiler pic.

    Both of them NA engines.
Not saying Toyota cannot do reliable turbo engines but the Stories in the Tundra Forums say otherwise.
