Just as the title says, I have a question about the halogen headlights. Are they as bad as people say on the new Tacomas? Looking at purchasing another Tacoma, but having trouble finding a TRD Off Road with the LEDs. I can find a ton of them with the halogen headlights.

I don’t think they’re that bad, however, I do think if buying new, the LEDs are worth holding out for.
H9 bulbs definitely help the standard assemblies and are priced right.

Nothing wrong with them just not as bright as led or hid. My only problem is that led headlights are too bright and I’m blinding the people in front of me since my Tacoma is slightly lifted in the front.

They aren’t great OP. If you want to hold out okay, if not you can diy it. A lot of us have done it with upgrading

The OEM LED headlights are arguably the best on the market as far as pure functionality as headlights goes, they're bright but not so bright you can't see and their cutoff range and focus is excellent (i.e. they don't cause glare like sticking an LED in a halogen housing does and they shine exactly where they're supposed to). If you can't find one from factory with LEDs, you can buy the headlights yourself and then get an aftermarket adaptor harness to make them work with a truck set up for halogens (someone who remembers the guy who makes those can hopefully link that in another post below)

They're not bad...they do their job and provide heat to melt snow...at least, that's the leading advantage from those who like them.

I swapped mine out because I wanted the improved visibility.

The Halogens were dimmer of course...and did not have the handsome appearance the OEM LEDs provided.

I wanted them so dearly, I paid well over $1200 for the pair...when they could of been had for A $480 option beforehand.

I call it, "Add-on Remorse" as opposed to "Buyer Remorse", LOLOLOL!

Luckily, I was able to get the DaveEasa harness to make it all work.

This decision is subjective...based on funds availability/obligation.

Obviously this is just my personal opinion, but I found the OEM halogens downright dangerous. Even with top of the line Osram and Philips bulbs, on rainy roads at dusk, I struggled to see. The OEM LED's have been amazing. Never since, have I struggled to see at dusk or night.

I wouldn't necessarily hold out for a truck with LED's, but I'd certainly budget to replace the halogens with OEM LED housings, right away.

Did I say OEM enough? If you want the best performance, stick with OEM. It's been proven over and over that aftermarket housings have inferior optics.

I have halogens with the H9 upgrade and I'm happy with them. When the road clears, I have DD SSc3 for aux high beams to make up for any shortfalls.

The factory halogens with factory bulbs are adequate but nothing more.

The factory halogens with H9 bulbs are just fine, pretty decent actually. They provide suitable lighting with decent spread. Bottom line they work, and work as well as any other halogen light (and better than many OEM LEDs)

The factory LEDs look to be slightly better than the halogens. They are also very sharp looking on the truck

IMHO there is nothing wrong with factory halogens, especially if you upgrade the bulbs. If you can hold out then get the LEDs from the factory, if you can't don't feel like you have bad lights.
