Good morning :pccoffee: Starting to turn the corner here in Minniesoda it is up to 35° already today. Have to smoke some cheese and set it up for the summer before it gets too warm, guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

I was at the Beretta factory in the 80's. Was on a Gator Freighter and pulled into Italy it was when they were pulling the 1911 off the ships and replacing them with the little 9mm pop guns. We charted a bus to the factory and could buy our own 9's but I wasn't going to pay for a pop gun but did go for the shotguns.

The bench is from one of the clubs I belong to think I am a member of 6 clubs. Mainly for clays but they all have rifle and pistol ranges. I hate that bench but that range is the one nearest me. Couple of years ago found a post about a great portable shooting bench and have made 2 now one for the deck and the other for taking to clubs to shoot "in between" fixed distances. Height adjustable, cheap and easy to make and take less than an hour to build. The guy is a lefty you need to flip the cutout if you are right handed.

They are extremely stable and really don't even need the sand bags to steady them. I shoot the PCP off the deck often during the summer after dinner. 10 shots in the X ring is the goal and sometimes it happens and when it doesn't it is not the fault of the bench it is on me. Not everyone understands punching holes into paper for perfection and 10 shots in one hole but have a feeling you get it.

Damn forgot how green it gets right now everything is brown. 6 months of dog poo, dead branches and last years leaves. I need to race to get things cleaned up.

Nice 'Squirrel Sniper' setup! Oh, I see you mention a 'lefty' ... a-ha, there is another person that shoots a gun left handed! I shoot pool and a gun left-handed, ... I'm left eye dominant, so I guess that's how it's determined (everything I researched and read has indicated such). You know how difficult it is to find (or better yet) purchase a left-handed shotgun!!! For years I was using my Dad's and the shells were flying out right in front of my face, ... he had an Ithaca Model 51 semi and an Ithaca pump-action, ... I know the Browning BPS and Ithaca 37 both bottom eject, but being I only had a paper-route when I was younger (beginning to hunt) I couldn't really afford one and Dad said, "Just use mine!" He was definitely old school!!

    Good Morning Folks :hattip:

Temps in the 30s, should see the sun and 40s today.

At work I was asked to be on the Apprenticeship Committee. I have 13 resumes to look at for 2 positions.

    @Cold Iron
The week of Memorial Day we're heading up to Lutsen on the north shore. It will be a full house. 4 adults, 2 grandsons, 2 big dogs and the kids nanny. Yes, they have a live in nanny. The original plan was to be up there this week. I'm glad those plans changed.

My Kimber is an Eclipse Ultra II. The Springfield is a semi custom model that I got about 20 years ago, I was very active on the 1911forum.net site, and they got a group buy on a customized full frame. I don't recall what it was called. It was my first 1911. Someday I'd like to have it further customized, it isn't nearly as accurate as my Kimber.

I was a Armorer/ # 2111 in the Marines back in the early 80's . I was constantly seeing alot of gun range failures of Browning M1911A1 .45ACP pistols in my Armory

Failures such as cracked slides , cracked barrels and broken firing pins even heard of slides breaking on recoil

I worked for a year in the Smalls Arms repair shop in my maintenance company, I saw similar failures/breaks with M16's, M2 .50 cals, etc.. Can't say this is unexpected for most any weapon that gets handled by a zillion different people, questionably maintained, who knows what all abuse they see in the field... and of course the bottom line of "Military Grade - means your <whatever> was made by the lowest bidder" o_O:rofl:

That is one sexy shooting bench! I recently picked up a Gamo .22 cal pellet rifle, and need a bench to shoot from, sight it in. Something like that looks perfect.

I'm right handed so use cast off guns. But the advantage of the Ithaca 37 is they are neutral cast. And as you said bottom ejection. Paper-route, stacking hay bales and cutting grass for $1 an hour. Skinned a lot of muskrat and coon as well but growing up South of Ithaca if you didn't shoot some type of Ithaca back in the 60's and 70's you were considered some type of Communist LOL. No really. First shotgun was a 16 ga. Ithaca 37. Still love my 37's.

Even the 37's once they moved production up the lake to King Ferry work for me. In 16 of course.

And nothing against the move to Upper Sandusky. In the Dakotas often carry a UL 12 ga. for phez

But with arthritis in my hands and wrists now don't shoot them as much as I used to :pout:

Yeah my friend in Silver Bay blew a foot of snow out of his driveway last week. The snowpack is heavy enough yet this year that the birds headed North are stalled in Duluth. Good move waiting until Memorial day Dan! Traffic will start to get heavy on 61 then. Lutsen is the high rent district of Cook County, well did you say live in nanny LOL?!

Only a couple thousand people in all of Cook County and it is one of the largest Counties in the State. Have standing reservations at a cabin up the Gunflint Trail for the first 2.5 weeks of Oct. each year. This year have reservations up in the Sunset Country of Canada with the Admiral and Captain for a cast and blast last week of September. So will be a 3.5 week trip this year.

Not as nice of a cabin as they are down at Lutsen but not going to complain. 2.5 miles from the Canadian border

Views from the deck aren't of Lake Superior like down in Lutsen but I can still live with them.

And beats the hell out of a tent like I used to. Too old for that now. Have a great time with the family there!
