2023 V6 Oil Filter

Fram is better. Their newest "Synthetic Endurance" line is specifically for Walmart, $12 for the equivalent of a TRD oil filter, 99% @ 20 micron rating and good for 25k miles.

Well, its more expensive than the stock toyota filter, so that must make it better.

 

Would you really leave an oil filter on for 25K miles?

 

They have silver holographic sticker, I’m sure they’re legit. Walmart is to big to sell fake products, at least in my opinion

 

Do I really need a new crush washer every time?

if you are talking about the washer on the drain plug is a good idea but you could get by with the old one.
the old one sticks to the pan and you have to snake a screwdriver up there and pop it off.

 

Even the fake toyota filters all come with that sticker, its just not as pronounced.

 

I never change the crush washer only had one drip in my 30 years of changing my own oil. On that one I tightened it up a little more and it stopped then I replaced the washer the next oil change. Changed my Tacoma 3 times with the old washer so far. No issues

As long as you are not buying your Toyota filters from this guy, you are probably OK.

 

Compared the old and new filter from the dealer and the orange one seems like what Subaru had to do which is offer another supplier until the main on catches up again. It says Toyota on it but not the part number. Seems the same to me

 

2023 tacoma should be under warranty up to 36000 miles right? unless you have over 36000 m on it already, what is the reason/s not going to dealer for oil change?

 

Nothing if you have a dealer like we have here. All the techs are middle aged ASE certified. I only stopped when toyotacare was done. Cost for an oil change now is $160. I can do the job just as well for a lot less. Only pita is, having to take a 5 mile ride to the recycling ctr. to dispose of the spent oil.

Just beware not all toyota dealers are like we have. You'll get the trainees usually doing the bottom end work to start...hopefully they do a good job

 

I replaced the shiity plastic oil filter housing with aluminum ones on both my Taco and wife's RAV4 (part#15620-31060). Just needed to move the aluminum plug to the new filter.
I get my filter by the case on Amazon, comes out to $45.37 for 10 filters, Ships from BAM wholesale parts. Real deal filters.
@OP do not forget to drain the oil out of the housing first.
I hate the OEM drain nipple that comes with OEM filter, so I got a screw in drain adapter with a tube. No mess.
As far as the dealer... Mine lost a bolt for the filter access door in the TRD skid plate. Sent me out without saying a word. I am anal, so I check under my truck after every oil change. Went back, they admitted that screw was stripped when tech took the door off. He knew what happened, did not do anything about it.
I asked dealer to order me a replacement screw. They ordered me the full skid plate install kit.
I am not letting them change any more of my oil. Rotate the tires under Toyota care, yes, but no oil changes.

 

Any store selling motor oil takes back used oil. Walmarts with auto centers, Advance Auto, Auto Zone all have oil drain barrels where you can dump your used oil, ATF, Diff oil.
