I keep a lot of stuff in my truck. Various small tools, flashlights, ammo, earplugs, binoculars, Clif bars, water, spare jackets and warm clothes, electrical cords, air compressor, tire repair kit, recovery strap, shackles, breaker bar with 19mm socket, jumper cables, hard hat and vest, chest rig sling bag, shovel, trauma med kit, hi lift jack, recovery boards. Probably some things I am forgetting.

If only one had the foreknowledge of what one would need in advance....

It's kind of like saying, I totally didn't need to wear my seatbelt today. I didn't hit anything!

ARB snatch strap, air compressor, tire plug kit at all times. I keep my hitch shackle on full time as well. I used to carry around all my toolboxes, but I now have the space to store them at home rather than carrying all that extra weight around with me.
Oh and jumper cables. And a box of small tools like screwdrivers and such.

Ill break up the list into what i have had to use and what I have, but have not used and hope I wont have to.

What I use, in descending frequency order:

Flashlights, (headlamp, maglight, and inspection light. they all have a purpose)
    Multitool/knife
    notebook/pen/sharpie
    Hand tools and socket set
Cutting tools (axe and saw, this changes based on local vegetation)
    Shovel
    Fire kit
    Bedroll
    Spare clothes/shoes (temperature dependent)
    Rope
    Tarps
    BooBoo kit
    Tire patch kit
    Flares/electronic flares
Coat hanger (I can neither confirm nor deny locking my keys in the truck)

Things I hope not to use:
    Fire extinguishers
    Trauma Kit
Recovery strap and some spare wood for traction or bracing the jack
    Get home bag

I wanted to keep a bottle jack in my Tacoma. Anyone have some good storage ideas? It's an odd size plus they need to be stored upright. Even if there's a hard case that works for them

Just a canopy, platform and some camping gear. I know it's overkill I am only carrying 400-500 lbs. It's small enough that I can carry it, because of its odd shape it doesn't fit anywhere well. I am trying not to carry it in the access cab. I usually carry my fridge there.

Also the lighter weight bottle jacks don't extend as high and my truck isn't lifted. It's actually much smaller than it looks.

i like to have a fishing rod, reel, and mini-tackle, in case i'm somewhere and have some time to kill. i had a 9' salmon rod under the back bench seat for a year. But i took it out because i never actually ever used it while being out and about, LOL.

any dedicated fishing trips were loaded up specifically for the fishing.

One time, I did however jam up my reel by laying it on the sand for a picture with my catch (the 1st fish that I caught, in the upper right corner), and so instead of just calling it a day and going home, I walked back to the truck to get this standby Olympic reel that i had in the truck (I used to use for trout fishing as a kid in the 1980s... the mono on it was probably that same vintage too). and I kept fishing, catching the other 8 fish in the picture.

I keep a bottle of water in the truck to rinse sand off my feet.

Other than that stuff, i have some bungies, a couple of ratchet straps, paracord, and an orange bandana that I use as a flags if i buy some wood or something that stucks out past the bumper.
