Daniel wasn’t family. Started there about 18 years ago and stayed. Danny’s son moved north last I heard. Daniel is a real good guy.

Well I’m 50. Just finished. Lol. I was just telling someone I’m not afraid of any mod or lift etc but I’ve slowed down. I usually jump into the deep end without looking but now I’m actually doing my homework just to avoid headaches and so forth because I’m not going to beat on this taco too hard

miss my 04. Only have one crappy pic. 6” suspension lift 3” body, 35’s 5.29’s etc. no rubbing hahahhahaha. FJ was built well too. I’m just slowing down these days and dodging the headaches I used to welcome.

No problem! My tires aren't bfg, they are Kenda Klever tires but have a decent tread pattern on them, kind of remind me of my old duratracs. When I rolled a mounted up tire by my Tacoma before I put them on the 4Runner they look so much beefier than my 255/80/17 tires on the Taco. They are not as tall but quite a bit wider, makes them look bigger overall.

that’s because almost every uca on the market moves the upper ball joint rearward for additional caster. Most high caster arms move the ball joint far enough backwards to cause rubbing issues. Ideally you would use the lower cams to push the lower control arm all the way forwards to create caster. Then the upper arm corrects the camber.

Agreed, but there are posts of people with identical set up and one rubs and one doesn't. Adding in various components complicates the matter even more. It would be nice if Toyota left a little more room for modifications like Jeep does.

Someone tagged me, but it’s not me he’s talking about. I use 255/85/16 on stock suspension and do just fine off-road, little to no rubbing. I did try the 285 route because it’s nearly impossible to find a 255 in an all Terrian. Anyways, here is a 285 on stock suspension, with 1.5 wheel spacer. You really don’t need a lift to fit 285s, but you most definitely need different wheels or use spacers because they will rub your uca. You also need a cmc. I wouldn’t even bother attempting to put them on unless you’re willing to cmc.

Your 285/70/17 rubbing the UCA is likely due to the Off-Road Wheels. IIRC they were like +13 or +25. Tire clearance on the ground != tire clearance in action which is why many think they don't rub even with stock suspension. The center point of the tire is the widest, obviously, and that center line is below the cab mount on level ground. I think the most common place without aftermarket UCAs is going to be cab mount, while braking or at hitting an obstacle at speed, while turning. This will cause the front suspension to compress getting that tire center closer to the cab mount. Turning the wheel at about a 45 degree angle is the worst combo. I am very seldom going fast, turning, and hitting an obstacle offroad, it's usually 2 of the 3 and I have never rubbed. I have brushed my cab mount (with a CMC) turning into parking lots with a heavy passenger.

TRD Pro with Wescott Designs ~1" lift up front.
    Stock UCA
Stock TRD Pro wheels (16" 0 offset)
    285/75/16 BFGKO2 listed at 32.8"
CBI baja bumper up front so no interference there.

    No UCA rub,

I still get a little bit of rub if I have the truck loaded with four people and I have the wheel half turned backing out of the driveway at an angle. Suspension is Bilstein 5100s with 887 springs, SPC UCAs and 285 /70 Nitto TGs on the T4R PRO wheels. I have a CMC but still need to trim a little more plastic to get all of the rubbing stopped.

Here's pics of clearance with the tires straight.tires straight.jpg

    tires sraight2.jpg

Tires do not rub backing out at an angle if I only have two people in the truck.

@jgr81 Are those the Kenda Klever AT2s? If so, may I ask how you like them?

I’ve been agonizing over my next set of tires and the Klever AT2s are at the top of my list right now. I’m very close to buying 5 of them but I’ve been trying to find some more info from people who have been running them for a while.

Yes they are! I put them on this winter and haven't got to test them off-road yet unfortunately due to the snow... the 4Runner isn't my daily driver either so not a ton of miles on them. But they do fine in the snow so far. They are the LT version and feel really smooth on the highway, seemed to have balanced just fine. I need to put new brakes on the 4Runner soon then I can head out further and test them out where it is dry! The price was good and I got them thru a Walmart near me.

Thanks so much! I have also been looking at buying them from Walmart because they’re so cheap there it almost seems like a mistake haha.

    I really appreciate the info!
