    Justin,

I've read a host of info for tunes and concluded 99.9% OTT is right for me, but admit have always been unsure about the throttle setting to select. I'm a couple of days away from getting this tune. Your reply to Saxonthebeach kinda muddied the waters for me a little.

My impression from the research done is there are three throttle settings; Lite/Mild, Mild/Medium, and Medium/Spicy. Each setting pretty much affects only the throttle sensitivity from the stopped position, but is about the same when going thru the gears getting up to the desired speed.

From your reply I'm guessing I'm missing the concept completely.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Bob

I’ve gotten comfortable with Lite/Mild and the throttle response.

Even with DRCC (Cruise Control) I don’t find it gear hunting.

The distance settings helps settle the vehicles that feel the need to squeeze in front of me to overtake/lane change.

Since I haven’t used it much, what effect does ECT have when in S-Mode? (S4-S5)

Depending on speed is how I engage which gear to be in for S-mode.

EDIT: I’m not towing at all right now.

    Hey Bob,

If I may, I’d encourage you not to obsess about which setting you will want. I strongly encourage you to communicate with your installer and let him provide a recommended starting point based on your needs/wants.

Sample the file (and not be afraid to try the any others). Our experience has highlighted what people prefer varies widely. Some folks think our “Lite” is far to much, others think our “Super Spicy” isn’t enough. This wide range of preference is why we offer a number of throttle variants for our production files. We find we can satisfy just about anyone with the five base throttle profiles we offer.

Should the base settings not meet your needs, having the experience from trying our production files will hopefully arm you with the information you need to communicate your needs to us, and we can use that feedback for a custom throttle profile for you.

I started out with Mild/Medium then asked Allan to upgrade to Medium/Spicy on initial load.

The second time I met up with YodaMaster, I dropped down to Lite/Mild after learning my peddle control wasn’t constantly in overdrive. Lol

I was given the choice to add Gear Lock in the 8.0 version and that’s where I’m at.

Tune works great whether I’m driving like an elderly person or if I want torque on demand.

    I’m happy with my tune.

Keeping Allan in prayers for his recovery after his accident. Heal up buddy!

    Justin,
Thanks for the details and I will get specific, as suggested, with my local tuner. I had a tune on the Tacoma prior to the 2023; that tune is no longer available in Colorado, so I have some minor experiences with the "magic" a tune can do to a Tacoma, impressive to say the least. With all the new options, especially the throttle specific sensitivities, presented by today's tunes vs what I got in 2018 (no options), I'm hoping to be able to ask the right questions the first time in.

    Cheers
    Bob

First, OTT Gear Lock is engaged by pressing ECT button. (It's also engaged when in S-Mode)

From what I've discovered (I consider myself a casual driver), engaging ECT button in Drive from a stand-still will cause my truck to upshift quickly.

As far as how it reacts to when I take my foot off the throttle, you have to be careful because it won't downshift.

I've been using S-mode 4/5 lately around local area without ECT. I find the gear-changing is less prevalent in S-mode than Drive mode.

I've yet to put in in 4H to have it all working together on a straight-away!

    ECT + S-Mode + 4H

Correct, ECT will have a high RPM upshift compared to "normal" (even with GL) to aid in towing and "other" potential uses.

I had my truck tuned last year with 8.0. What is the difference between 8 and 9.0?
    Thanks!

There's a slight bump in power, but mostly throttle control enhancements between "8.0" and "9.0".

The OTT tune is hands down the best one I have run.
I have been running other tunes for a while. I have my own dyno results from a previous tune that were just sad. I would start with the medium spicy that gives you the option for all out with the ECT button pressed. Take it from there. It will take like 3 red lights till you get used to the pedal. It's not a problem at all. Do you have several cars? The gas pedal feels different in all my cars, you will get used to it after a couple stop and goes.

I had Tom provide me my OTT tune yesterday. Truck is much more responsive. Tom was great to work with, very professional!

Just self tuned for the first time (with a few questions answered and support from John at OTT). Super easy to flash the ECU and WOW… WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I am 100% stock and from the first press of the accelerator out of the garage to getting up to highway speed, I was amazed at the difference. It felt like a different truck. It just “goes” and doesn’t seem to be bog down like it did stock. It feels like the truck lost 500lbs or more. It shifts smoother, gear hunts less and was much more responsive to minor throttle input. I took a 20 mile test drive and can’t believe the difference from stock. A big thanks to OTT for waking up my truck!

Finally was able to get my Tacoma up to Adam at Colorado Toyota Tuning for the Overland Tailor Tune.
While I have to admit Toyota made some positive advancements in the stock 2023 and it drove better then 2018 I traded in prior to it being tuned, the new Overland Tailor Tune breathed a new life in to the 2023. Had a 50 mile drive home and noticed gear hunting was absent, shifting was smooth, quiet and deliberate Response to the gas peddle was immediate. My time researching and asking questions for the right tune was not wasted. Adam was easy to work with, answered all my questions during the install. It's my opinion this is the best mod you can do to your Tacoma, hands down. Thanks to Colorado Tuning and Overland Tailor Tuning.

    Cheers

Had a wonderfully long day on the rollers today. The highlight of the day was the 2019 Lexus GX460 that we strapped down to the AWD dyno. Very clean, low mileage unit in 100% stock trim made this a breeze to tune. Lexus does a wonderful job on their calibrations but we were able to trim a little fat still and bring out a little bit more everywhere. Combined with our custom tailored transmission and reworked throttle angles, this one should be a good bit more engaging to drive.

Had my truck tuned this morning by TK-421 Tuning here in Orange County CA. Quoc was a pleasure to work with and the OTT tune is a much needed improvement for the manual transmission.

Noticeably more torque down low after 2000 rpm throughout all gears. Unlike before, I'm able to accelerate sufficiently without having to downshift even in 6th at highway speeds. I highly recommend this tune!

I am curious what is the difference between a regular tune (heard it is up to 33s) and the same throttle settings on a tune for 34s? I am currently on med/mild and plan to go up from 33s to 34s (285/75r17). I am just wondering what are the pros and cons sticking with the same "33" tune that I have with 34s, or getting it update to the "34" tune. Thanks in advance!
