Heard a rattle at idle on my 2014 Tacoma AC v6 6MT.

Finally got around to looking and I banged on the exhaust pipe a few times and found it within 5 seconds.

It looks like it's a clamp for the catalytic converter right before the bend.....but I'm not 100% sure and I can't seem to find a part for it. It rusted to hell and the bolt just disintegrated and what's left of the nut looks nothing like a nut.

Any help is appreciated. Part # would be great.

There's no joint in between the hanger and the catalytic converter so the only thing I could think of is that it's to clamp the shield in as seen in the bottom left hand corner of the rectangular box of the parts diagram below.

I suppose just get a generic exhaust clamp rated for the heat that matches the diameter?

I had the wrong parts diagram. Looks like the entire heat shield for the cat just fell off #14.

Upon further insepction (this was on the driver side pipe) there is no heat shield for either of the converters and also the passenger side has no shield. So now I have no idea what this clamp is supposed to do.

Tighten to what? The entire catalytic converter shield is not present. And I have no bolt. And the nut disintegrated. So I think I need the following after speaking to a dealer.

    18445-0P020
    Positions: Lower shield

    18435-0P020
    Positions: Upper shield

    Clamp
    9046112353

The guy said only one clamp needed but now after googling that part number it doesn't appear that it comes with the required bolt. Also doesn't make sense that only one clamp needed but I can't tell until I have the shield halves in hand.

If you dont have the heat shields, you dont need the clamp. You changed your OP parts diagram but in this new one, it would be the clamp right below #13. You could safely discard that clamp or if you're feeling froggy, you can source replacement heat shields and reuse (I wouldn't recommend that though).

If I don't have the heat shields..........I must assume they were there at one time. Also the clamp I have is ok but the nut rusted off so I might as well just get a new clamp for $8.

With 106K on the clock (I bought in 2020 with 96K) either they were already on their way out and I never noticed it fall off....until recently when I heard the rattling. So it makes sense that they must have rusted off.

Called another dealer and turns out I need 3 bolts, 2 nuts, 1 clamp. I knew it couldn't just be one clamp on the one side as that just makes no damn sense whatsoever. Second parts guy I talked to knew what I was talking about. First guy just wanted to get off the phone.

These are the prices he quoted me. I think I can get them cheaper online.

    From https://autoparts.toyota.com/products/product/protector-monolithi-184350p020#popup-1

This diagram shows the bolts and the nuts and the clamp.

The rattling most people have is the exact issue I have. And this is on the driver's side. The cat is lower and completely exposed to the road and that's why this side requires a heat shield.

The part # for the bolts in the below diagram (90080-10096) have been superceded to part #91511-B0614 as mentioned in my previous post.

And this is why we shop around. Saved $47. Even though that second dealer was helpful, it wasn't worth paying an extra $47.

I'm trying to remember clearly, but I vaguely remember that only the drivers side had a heat shield over the rear cat due to the proximity to the front diff. The heat shield material is one of the first to rust and fall off, so I suspect that you've previously lost your heat shields on the road somewhere whereas the clamp just hung around. I dont know how feasible this might be for you to do but you might be able to save some money by using header wraps and a pipe clamp or two.

That's ok. I love my truck. Just ordered the parts required. I'm in NY and drive on the worst roads in the country so I'll sleep better at night knowing that I have the proper protections. And yes, you are correct there is only the driver side that has the heat shield since it's lower and exposed to the road.

Got the package today. The bolts they give you are fine for the clamshell part, but for the clamp I had to get a longer bolt that I luckily had in my drawer. They also plastered each clamshell half with 3 stickers with my name on it. Seems a bit excessive. Had to soak in Naptha and scrape off. What a waste of time. But got the job done and now the heat shield/protective plate is on there.

On a side note why does this site only allow you to upload one picture at a time?

Called a dealer I've taken the truck to for a recall that is local.....and at least they were consistent. $157 for parts and $77.50 for labor and an estimated 30 minutes for the job. $234.50 + tax so I saved myself $150. Yee haw.

Enjoyed the pictures. Mine came off also, ordered new parts but still confused on how it goes on. The piece that has the holes in it which way does it go on ? Any help would be great.

The bottom shield has the cut out and holes for drainage I guess. Once you get the parts you'll see it only goes one way. The clamp goes towards the rear. The two bolts on either side with the 2 nuts goes towards the front.

Like I said I could NOT get the bolt to catch the clamp. It was too short and it's such a tight awkward space to work in. Luckily I had a bolt that was 5mm longer that caught.

    Good luck!

You are correct its only on the drivers side not on passenger. Keeps heat off front driveshaft/u-joints and drivers foot area. These 2 bolts and clamp bolt always rust off and many loose the shields.
If you catch the shield before it falls off any bolts/washers/nuts that fit work and I used a large stainless hose clamp for that rear clamp.
So bottom line for others is if the rattle is not all the rusting/corroding heat shields dropping down as the holes enlarge and the nuts need bigger washers added, its probably the drivers side cat shield.
