I just finished replacing my starter on my 2006 Tacoma 2.7L. My question is about the large battery cable that attaches to the starter motor. When I removed this cable from my old starter it was caked with mud and sand, which corroded the nut such that a wrench wouldn't fit right, and I had to use vise grips. Is there supposed to be a plastic or rubber cover over the connection?

    Thanks in Advance

I'd have to look at mine but I will say some vehicles do and some don't.
Put some grease or anti-seize on it, that should help keep it from corroding.

Yeah, I'm curious because the terminal is exposed to road grime and it ruined my last connection. My Haynes manual shows a picture of a cover over the wire and nut in the section of removing the starter motor. I asked the parts guy at the Toyota dealer about it when I picked up the new starter but he wasn't sure. I haven't been able to find a good wire harness diagram or so related to the starter wiring.
