I have a front end clang that hits usually when I brake. It usually sounds like a single hammer tap, but sometimes there are two. In the most general sense, it happens when the direction of force between the running gear and the frame changes direction.

It might be due to my upper control arms. The gap shown in the image opens and closes as you turn the wheels. Both sides of the truck, and both ends of the bolts show the same play.

The gap at its largest is about 1/4", maybe a bit more.

If you think that you might have an angry little blacksmith that doesn't like it when you tap the brakes, you might have the same thing going on.

For the good of the order,

    David

The stock bonded rubber bushing are designed to move like that. Look elsewhere for your problem.

I would look towards a sway bar end link

As others have mentioned, it could be the sway bar links. I got a few clicks that I can remember hitting the brakes hard. But mostly speed bumps, driveways, or 4 wheelin over like moguls.

It might not be the uca bushings. Although, in this picture the gap appears a bit less.(sorry, not near my Taco, screen shots from a previous library photo). Have you tried checking if it’s torqued properly?

    Nothing yet...
I was having some metallic "rattle" noise when going over small bumps and such... turns out the top and bottom bolt of my end link was backing out and was lose. Tightened those 2 down and the noise stopped.
