    Hi everyone,

I recently noticed my frame starting to go regardless of prevention measures so I bought a brand new frame from toyota late March of this year and was wondering if to just do the swap now or wait until the current frame gets worst. Below are the pictures of the current frame and the new frame. I think there were 2 left when I got mine. Thanks in advance

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
In your cases as long as you might want.

What about all the other parts normally replaced with the frame ? What are your plans for those.

I'm doing upper and lower control arms, as well as springs and front shocks w/ coils to match my rear. Made the brake lines using copper-Nickel although mine are solid. Just bought the last batch of bushings and bolts I needed for the swap. I'm thinking about repainting her as my friend owns a shop and he's willing to do it for under 2k.

Wait until there is no choice: i.e.: until it suffers the disastrous "broken-back" failure, fails inspection or "you just know it's time". While you're waiting, inspect everything and start picking up and stashing the parts that will have to be replaced because they won't willingly come off the old frame without destroying them.

My son's 2005 Access-Cab underwent frame replacement a few years back at only 145,000 miles. No exaggeration: Almost everything attached to the frame was replaced: front end components except the springs, brake and fuel lines and related brackets, shocks, all the mounts for everything: body/cab, engine, transmission. It was amazing.

Go hook up with that guy who galvanized his entire frame, If I was in your shoes where they salt the roads i'd 100 percent go that route.

I drove them way worse than that although, I didn’t know it.
Showed no signs of a problem.
I’d say you’ve got a couple years before I would worry about it.
Even at the point yours is it can be fixed.

I've been watching all these trucks with the replacement frames....
and discovered the new ones rust just as fast as the old ones....
    and sometimes even faster.....

Sooooo.....I would slather another couple of coats of some industrial enamel on the new one...

and then clean and lightly paint again every 3 or 4 yrs....

and would lavishly treat the inner box with copious amounts of fluid film or preference..

I would maybe even get the fluid film gun and retreat every year.....

if galvanizing isnt in your price range?

while its still out on the ground.... coat it with RUSTBOND. this is something they put on all the steel in the chemical plants now before painting. this stuff is incredible. got a little jar of it & did the bottom of a mower deck & bush hog. its dang near impossible to get off & no rust.

    its made by Carboline=== https://www.carboline.com/products/product-details/Rustbond

if ya dont mind: how much did that frame set ya back?

AZZ Galvanizing. They have a few locations in Illinois (for OP) and around the Midwest. Price is reasonable and pretty quick turnaround for the piece of mind you get. @tacomaoverkill if the galvanized idea isn’t your thing, and since that frame is brand new, I look into cosmoline, as an alternative to fluid film r wool wax. Superior waxy protection/coating to protect your investment.

Sorry about the late reply, been busy with work but it was 3496 with taxes, about 3300 before taxes. This was cheaper than buying used due to transportation costs. I'm looking at galvanizing but not sure if the pros outweigh the cons

    wow!!

if a frame popped up for $3,500 for my 03? id go for it at that price for sure! probably invested that much in patching the one under the truck now, steel, my time, electric, cutting wheels... blah blah blah..

as to coating it? id for sure Rustbond it. its easy, you can do it yourself.

cosmolene: as a guy who has cleaned up crates full of guns stored in it: UGH. if you get it hot or live in a hot area? it melts off & runs everywhere. its like never sieze in the fact that it never stops running & getting everywhere.

On my old tacoma (totaled) and original owner 05 4runner (it had the original 36 month spray they used to do as well) it has just been car wash every week during the winters. So far this kept both those trucks rust free. The previous owner of my current truck used used motor oil and I've used fluid film cans for the last 6-7 years. I wanted to do por15 so I could keep washing but assumed fluid film would've have been better washed it at the end of the winter season. I then reapplied it before winter started.

Man thats a score on that frame...I currently still driving mine rusty on the back rear underside and was searching and bought a complete rolled 03, planning on swapping all over to the newer frame after I coat it in SEM Brand (rust trap) just to be safe and then for the small stuff planning on using rustoleum encapsulator that is a newer design that’s two part spray can (it encapsulates and leaves a protective barrier you can buy at wally world ....but yeah if you can afford that the galvanized do it ....but I think in protection regardless ...like it was said above I would for sure do extra work to the frame just to be safe whatever you choose

Would anyone be interested in a partout? I'm thinking about picking up a double cab prerunner near me for the engine. All parts other than the engine (you can have the oil pan if you'd like as I'll be reusing my t100's) would up for grabs.
