Martians setup attached to roof is the best setup for no damage.

Hey Linw! This is a really cool design! Love to see all the cool things people come up with! Front Runner fairings should come with a clear protective strip that goes right where the fairing rubber touches the roof to prevent any long-term damage. @Martian__'s installation is perfect! Honestly just pick up some of the 3M Clear Paint Protection Tape and you should be set. It's not a bad idea to inspect it every so often and replace the strip if necessary.

Speaking from experience, I had mistakenly installed my paint protection strip a few inches too far back, so the rubber wasn't even on it (huge fail). I make sure to power wash the roof and rack at least once a month and have yet to see or notice any paint damage. I have since moved the strip to the right position, but I still wash the rack as often as possible. Pretty sure that dirt and grime collecting right behind the rubber and being 'rubbed into' the roof like sandpaper by the rubber can exacerbate the issue.
