I wanted to share a simple modification that I made to incorporate racks over my Access Tonneau cover, to mount my bike (or other gear).

The design consists of (4) small brackets made from Aluminum Angle, mounted directly to the tonneau inside rail. This requires minimal modification to the tonneau rails, and requires no drilling or modifications to the truck bed rails.

I used a Yakima Roof Rack system, including the mounts and cross bars. I also add a Yakima bike rack in the spring/summer to transport a bike.

Please inquire for more specifics about the brackets, hardware, and rack model #s.

Awesome. I have been looking to do a similar set up over my Tonnosport access cover but with rhino rack bars because I already have them. I was very close to getting the track mount kit and drilling the tracks to the top of the bed rails but this looks like a much more elegant and less risky operation. What are the specifics on the brackets size wise and where did you get them? Did you have to modify the tonneau at all and does it still seal well to keep water out?

Thx Denny - I almost went with one of the track kits as well, but I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the rails and covers. I made the custom brackets out of roughly 6" lengths of 1-1/2"x1-1/2"x0.125" Aluminum Angle, coated with PlastiDip. The mounting hardware is all stainless. Each bracket does require (2) holes through the rail of the tonneau (hidden, and much preferred to holes in the truck itself). With the brackets squeezed between the foam strip of the tonneau rail and the bed rail, it does allow a little more water in than without, but it's only minor.

I am getting a new Tacoma and am torn between the 60" and 70" JetStream bars. How long are yours with caps on?

    Thanks!
