I had a brand new pair of Toytec Boss Aluma 2.0 coilovers installed on my 02 Tacoma along with a diff drop and SPC adjustable upper control arms in March 2022. Now, just over 5k miles and 13 months later, my front right is leaking and Toytec says they won't replace it because we're past the 1 year warranty!
I've heard nothing but praise for Toytec on TW and am curious if anyone else has dealt with a similar situation and has any advice on how to proceed. They suggested I pay to have the shock rebuilt (without offering a discount), leaving me feeling incredibly frustrated and disappointed with Toytec.

We’ll that stinks for sure. When did it start leaking? From the looks of it, it was before the one year mark. Or did it blow out on the trail? I’ll assume you didn’t notice because you don’t drive the truck much.

Fox shocks have a year warranty. King Shocks has 90 day. Pretty standard.

I've had a shock blow on the second run. Ordered a seal kit, new shaft, some shock oil, and rebuilt it myself. It's not rocket math. Get it done boss.

I'm actually surprised toytec didn't just replace it, they're a pretty stand up company

I had an issue with the shafts pitting and leaking oil that way. Same response from them, but they did loan me a pair of shocks while they did the rebuild so I could still use the truck. Overall I think they take care of customers, but sometimes shit happens. Sucks on timing, but not much to do about it except get them re built, or pay a lot more for a new shock.

Thanks for the replies on this post! To answer one question @gotoman1969 I have no idea when it started leaking, though I agree it was well before the 1 year mark since there's significant build up on all the components surrounding the shock (and no leak or buildup on the left side for comparison). I didn't think to inspect the shocks within the first year since the truck isn't a daily driver and the off roading I do is moderate difficulty. Just for my own knowledge, shouldn't a shock be able to completely compress on trail without becoming damaged or leaking? I would have thought that there's a point where the shock stops performing and becomes a rigid member of the suspension without being structurally compromised.

Yes it should, I doubt that is your problem. It is probably just a bad seal.

It could happen to anyone. For example when overland outfitters did the blind shock testing, they had one of the kings leaking just after one day of use.....

Or,(you should check) your shaft could have gotten damaged and it could have damaged the bottom seal... Hard to say until your take it apart id say.

It should be able to fully compress(not bottom out) and fully extend( not over extend) and cause no damage to seals. As @05 4x4 said probably just a bad seal.

Following up on this post to mention that Toytec did not budge on their stance, despite previously stating on the phone that they "stand behind their products 100%." When I followed up via email to point out that the product had obviously failed prior to the 1 year mark (based on the amount of leak) and asked if they were willing to at least offer me a discount on the rebuild, they never even replied. Hate to say it, but due to this situation, I'm done with Toytec. I don't have an expectation for equipment to be impervious to failure, and I don't expect companies to drop everything to support me. But this situation left me feeling that Toytec did not live up to the hype and praise which is often given to them.

It doesn't feel justifiable to spend $500+ on a shock that doesn't even make it 5K miles, and then to pay even more money to rebuild the equipment that failed.

Sorry to hear that mane, I have two friends that are running toytecs and love them. I’ve ridden and their trucks and I think this setup is still the absolute best budget over a billstein. The shop I’m getting my Aluma 2.0s stand by them, and say they’ve never had any problems in the thousands of installs they have done. Surprised they didn’t even offer a rebuild, the shop I’m working with has said Toytec was their best partnership.

@psvines this is interesting, and I'll need to see if my shocks are included. Did you take advantage of the offer? It's interesting that they don't state what the issue for the replacement is.

It was an easy process. Purchased new, replaced original, returned original for credit.

Have you had any resolution on this?
My boyfriend and I BOTH have ToyTec Aluma Boss 2.0 Coilovers on our Toyota Trucks and BOTH failed just outside the 1 year mark BOTH with Less Than 5000 miles on them. Same Response from ToyTec…Too Bad, But we can rebuild them at full price. NOT stoked with their customer service, as they pretty much give you the run around and then completely ignore you. Definitely do NOT stand behind their product.
Has anyone been able to salvage the AlumaBoss Coil and used a different shock, say Bilstein?!
We refuse to give ToyTec another dime.
    Thanks!

If anyone is considering ToyTec, I would highly recommend going another route.
