What newfangled way will theives be stealing the new Tacoma. Hacking key fobs? hacking thru the headlights? Maybe a low tech approach. This new truck might become highly desirable among auto thieves.

    my speculation:
the new 4th gen is still susceptible to OBD2 key fob reprogramming theft, just like ANY other modern car with keyless entry.
maybe Toyota already patched the CAN BUS invasion attack (aka, the headlight hack), but I highly doubt they did anything to encrypt CAN data so that method is still a threat to those 4th gen with keyless entry.
if lower end trim 4th gen has physical turn key, that can still be stolen via OBD2 key reprogram, but the thief has to have an immobilizer transponder, which adds a layer of deterrence.

looks like lately the new fangled tech Toyota's been cooking is the digital key feature. I'm sure eventually that can be hacked too, but I wouldn't mind using it because I often go on lakes and not having to carry a key fob is nice.

If you really worry, igla system can beat almost all thieves except a tow truck. You can also custom build a kill switch

Hacking in via canbus is the new way. They just need to identify an easily accessible wire that’s carrying canbus signals and can take over. A lot of fancy headlights now utilize canbus so protect those openings.

If a kid can ride a dirt bike he can probably drive a manual transmission. Most kids who steal cars aren't stealing Tacomas fortunately.
