Highly recommend the Plano all-weather gun case for a large roof rack storage solution. Mine has now held up for a year mounted on my roof rack in Oregon's high desert. We have all four seasons out here and not once has my case leaked. I did lose the top layer of foam on the case because the heat caused the adhesive to melt, but that's what you get for leaving a black plastic box in the sun for months. Honestly though, that layer of foam wasn't super necessary to what I put in the box. It has locks on two of the outside handles as well as slots to put locks on the outside if you need the extra security. This summer I plan to add struts to mine so opening and closing is a little easier. I also popped the wheels off on the back for a more flush fit on my rack.

My goal for this is to store some basic emergency gear and tools. I have a decked systme, and while I am torn on it, I think I want to free up its space for other gear that I do not use often....

The pelican Vault case was 199.00 on Amazon and seems really weather proof so far. It also has modern lines so it doesn’t look to shabby. I just installed ours two weeks ago and this is my only picture.

I was wondering...does anyone see an issue with using 4 of these to attach a rifle case/pelican case to a roof rack. Avoid the straps and avoid bolting it to the roof rack. Just bolt the latch to the case and it would hook directly onto the roof rack. This would make it easier to take off and put back on. My only concern would be if was secure enough?

If the latch covers the mounting screws you put on the case it looks secure enough for 90% of the places it could get parked with a lock.

Still leaning toward security screws through the bottom of the case and a rail from the bottom if I mount one up top.
