Same here. Mom was the good little catholic girl and dad was the agnostic. Thankfully she relented once we started to rebel about the religious pressures. Little bro doing his own thing is same too.

Yeah all these years later it's become apparent to me that mom wasn't even really religious herself, it was just her way to feel connected to her uber religious family - 3 sisters and her parents that all lived in the same Missouri town. She was the only one to leave the state and it was just one of those things that made her feel part of what they were part of I guess.

Ironically she rarely goes to church anymore and my dad ended up going through a religious phase after they divorced. People are funny

that stuff is wild. I haven't been religious for 10 years and I'm still deconstructing the psychic damage it did to my brain.

I remember hearing stories of how people in the church would be able to speak in tongues/Spanish/Hebrew with no knowledge of it through the power of God and that was just a "fact of life" if you're holy enough lol

Not to mention prosperity gospel BS where people who were faithful in tithing despite struggling financially would find money in random places to pay the bills that they skipped to tithe.

 

I've heard of it happening to people after being in a coma or having a brain injury, coming to and suddenly knowing how to play an instrument or speak a language they didn't know before.

I don't know if they have a medical explanation for it but I'll chalk it up to something we just don't understand yet before chalking it up to the spaghetti monster in the sky lol
