OBDII Reader for Trans Temp

Trying to order a new Bluetooth OBD2 so that I can get trans temp since I can't find it on my torque one. My google-foo seems to be broken this morning and couldn't find it through search though I know it's been posted.

What do you guys use/ recommend?

 

An adapter itself doesn't give you access to parameters. You app has to have those parameters(PIDs) based on the year&model.
I recommend OBD Fusion and buying Toyota PIDs. All PIDs are matching Techstream PIDs.
Veepeak(Android) +OBD Fusion+Toyota PIDS. In the past, the combo was around $20.
The adapter is good enough to monitor engine/tranny, but it is too slow for tunning purposes

 

You don't need a new OBD adapter, just a different app. Although, you can search here and find out how to program PIDs into Torque.

OBD Fusion with the extra Toyota PIDs will give you AT temps.

 

Gotcha I always thought the adapters where somewhat paired to the apps! Will give OBD fusion a try thanks!

 

If you want one that is hard wired for constant observation and not the phone look into the ScanGage II. It has many stock readouts and even more programmable ones. And you can read and clear CEL's.

 

I can confirm this. I just bought the Tacoma PIDs through the OBD Fusion app on my iphone and after hunting through the app afterwards, I found the Tranny temps. Thought I'm not sure why there are two different tranny temps. I'm assuming there are two sensors or something. But it works! screw that $450 tool from Amazon!

 

I went through the hassle of Bluetooth dangles, various different PIDs and such and its a waste.
I got a scangauge II and it worked perfectly.

The cable is long enough you can have it under the vehicle to read and be ready to pull the overflow plug. Plus, now I have a convenient not-too-intrusive gadget on the dash that tells me various other parameters of operation.

Best route IMO.

 

Welp, a couple hours of sinking around and I was able to tune in OBD Fusion to give me everything I need right on my phone.

So I saved around $435

 

Nice layout! I seem to have no talent in that regard.

 

Once I figured out how to add guages ("Displays") to the dashboard and that going from a vertical to landscape view is completely NOT supported. I stuck with landscape. After that, I just explored the types of guages and discovered redline limits n junk, it was actually fun to work with.

 

I am using OBDLink which came free with the MX+ and just added the Toyota PID’s. It is supposedly the same app as OBD Fusion and displays do have to be either/or and not both unless they only have a couple of gauges. I think you can import/export dashboards between the two as well.

 

I got one of these to keep in the glovebox. works great for trans temp, brake bleed and tpms.

It was $95. when I bought it last year.

After searching for OBD Fusion in the App Store, I see that it cost $10. Are you saying to add the trans temp it was an in app purchase of $15?

 

I use the Scan Guage 2 to monitor temps in real time. Not to expensive on Amazon at $159

I just got the OBDLink MX+. Seems to be same app as Fusion, but the additional Toyota PID's are included...and for any other vehicle that might be supported as well.

So far, I'm monitoring the trans and engine oil, gear selection, torque converter lock-up, plus a few others. Still messing around with my dash layout, but the app and OBD dongle are really quick to update.

As mentioned above, I think I paid $10 for the app year ago. I bought it mainly to clear out error codes on my vehicles. I recently paid for the Taco PIDs to monitor my Trans Temps. Easy enough to figure out if you poke around enough

 

Hi All,

Just installed the SCANGAUGE 2, programming the two transmission temperature Xgauges wasn’t too difficult. I’m very happy with it. Running the data cable was a pain because of my 3TPAM and all the wires I already have running through it. Don’t get me wrong, the 3TPAM is great, just challenging to install IMO.

For background, I installed a Hayden trans cooler and Maradyne fan. I bought a magnefine trans filter and a

Derale 13090 filter kit. Think I’ll install the magnefine for now, if I ever figure out where to mount the Derale, I’ll do that. Anyone mounted one?

Anyone know the exact wording in Fusion or which menu for the AT temp? I've purchased the Toyota codes but can't find the at temp. Looking thru all the toyota codes and not seeing it.

 

See post above your. In search, type A/T.
If you still cannot find, check your truck year and Fusion package year. Both have to match.
