Hey all, I’m a 1st gem man at heart and really dont know much about the 2005+ trucks. I’m helping my Mom while she’s looking around (this will be a spare/ secondary vehicle). There’s a 2014 Tacoma local to us we’re looking at, and I’d like y’all’s opinions on approximate value/ fair ish paying price.
Cosmetically it’s kind of rough, numerous scratches/ scuffs, missing trim strip on top of cab, cracked tail light housings etc. Carfax checks out pretty good, supposedly 1 owner truck with 140k.
My biggest concerns are the frame rust I’ve seen crawling under the truck, and the exhaust is rusted badly in spots (approx cost on replacing?). He’s asking $21k (too much in my opinion). This truck spent some time in NY, owner says he’s made a lot of trips from NC to NY.
What are y’all’s thoughts/ opinions? We are going to test drive in a few days, as we’ve only stopped by to look at it and owner wasn’t present.

Check the frame (inside) by the converter.
It’s a know place for rust to penetrate through first.

Personally, $21k is WAY too much.
But I’m a Southern guy, and rust scares me.
I’d walk away from that one at a fast pace.

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
Hell to the no! Put money down towards a new one and call it hood. Sucks when people dump buckets of money towards an illusion truck. Hell, might as well just wait for the 4th gen :fistbump:

If you see scratches, most likely the clear coat is gone.
There is too much rust on a lot of spots where I don’t like even for my Canadian ass.

$21,000 American Gold Bars?? More like
    $10,000 Zimbabwean Dollars.

What should you pay? Maybe 12 grand, but I would look elsewhere, doesn't look like it was taken care of very well

I know you've already made up your mind on this truck and I agree it has too much rust.
My 2012 with 150K looks better and it's lived outside its entire life in Ohio.
The truck pictured should be in 12-16K ballpark especially with rust and scratch concerns.
Factory exhausts do tend to rust out for this age group. Mine included. As far as cost your looking at $550, but the hardest part is finding one.
I placed an order 6 months ago through dealer and am still waiting.
Damn catalytic converter thieves are just chopping up everything and has caused a part shortage in OEM replacements.
Sure I could go aftermarket, but my target is quiet, not just cheapest.
    Hope this helps,

    Good Luck!

Thanks from the info! The $550 is I’m assuming parts cost only, including or excluding the cat?

I might go $500 just to get me around for a few months. Stay away from this truck.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Yep. Nope. What you need is a ‘70 Cadillac Coupe de Ville

Hard pass, wouldn't even consider it unless that 20g includes a frame swap, exhaust, and the replacement of every corroded fluid fitting and pulley at a dealership. :D

Wow. Can you wait? Talking heads on the tube report 5-6% of prime auto loans are behind on their payments. Part of the issue is people payed thousands over MSRP, they now owe more on the loan than what the current market will support. Prices have to drop, it’s just when.
