Hi everybody. I’m do for an upgrade on tires soon. I bought some 17” methods and I am torn between the BFG KO2’s and the Falken Wildpeak at3w’s. I’ve heard good and bad about both but am open to other opinions. I live in San Diego and it’s also my daily driver but when I do off-road I stick to the desert and have future plans to off-road in Baja California. Any suggestions? Looking at 275/70r17 for size. Thanks !!

There's no best. It really depends on application and needs. For a daily driver I would not consider KO2s, but that's just me. I had them very briefly in an E rated version and they were terrible to drive on most of the time. Zero sidewall flex translated to a very rough road ride. I have had the Falken Wildpeaks and thought they were pretty good. I currently have the BFG Trail Terrain TA and I like them better than the Wildpeaks. Haven't really tried anything other than those 3.

I used KO2's for nearly 20 years on my frontier and they were great. my current set is Wildpeak AT3w's. I like them both and mine is a daily driver.

I think the wildpeaks suck and wouldn’t recommend them at all. BFGs are meh. I’d check out the Toyo ATIII or General Grabber A/Tx. I really like both of those. Toyos have been the smoothest but they are a bit more mild.

I did not care for my K02 at all. They have been my least favorite. I liked the Ridge Grappler a lot and so far the Wildpeak have been as good if not better. Toyo was decent, step above the K02.

I've had a bunch over the years. Rugged Trail, KO2, Duratrac, Dynapro ATM, Wildpeak AT3W.

Favourite of them is the Wildpeak. Most over rated was the KO2.

Check out the Mickey Thompson Baja boss AT’s. They became super popular recently, probably for a good reason. I don’t have them but I’ve been doing a lot of tire research and I haven’t found a single bad review of them.

If you do a lot of sand, they would probably be great for you.

I have General Grabber ATXs and I have been very happy with them.

Wildpeaks will be fine for what you’re doing. They wear fast in the standard load due to the softer winter rubber. They will wear slower (but ride slightly more harsh) in the LT rating with deeper tread and harder rubber. California and Utah rock ate through the Wildpeaks on my 99 4Runner pretty quick and that’s a light vehicle.

Others to consider would be Toyo ATIII for sure. Coopers worth a price comparison as well.

Those wheels and tires won’t fit a stock truck without some :sawzall:

Depending on the offset it should fit with only mud flaps removed.

Slight alignment tweak and it'll go I test fit 275/70r17 k02's before sticking with duratracs and they only hit the sports bumper lip and mudflap. That was on a +1 wheel, now having said that the k02 is noticeably smaller than other tires of equivalent size.

my 2021 came with Michelins. Suggested TP is 22PSI. I was surprised thinking they were too soft. When warmed, they are fine over 36 PSI. I would replace with the same when needed.

Can’t beat the ko2’s long thread life and perform well in almost every condition except mud.

I’ve had KO2s, coopers, and finally was shown the light and gods providence with the Yokohama Geolandar AT

best tire I’ve ever run. Great on snow, mud and rain, I get 50-60k miles a set. I’ve used them exclusively since 2010. Will never not run them

Another vote for the MT Baja Boss ATs. I've been using them as my daily driver for a few months and they handle just fine on and off road so far. Looking forward to see how they handle off road now that monsoon season is kicking in
