I live in Arizona, I use one to protect from rock chips on the leading edge of the hood. Don’t think it does much for bugs.

I would be more concerned with front bumper grille surround. Lot more prone to take a hit, then leading edge of hood. Like mentioned, not going to help with bug. Plus butt ugly

If its like mine, plenty of room to wash behind it even though it's the low profile.

Have one. Only thing it does it prevents rock chips. No effect on bugs that I can notice, meaning tons of yolky splashes over my windshield all year.

Buying shit is fun even if it doesnt do anything.

They don’t do anything for bugs. They do for rocks. My truck came with one and I left it on. One day I removed it for looks and drove home from work. Not even 1 minute after leaving work, a rock from a truck flew up and hit the hood RIGHT where the deflector protects the hood at. Got some touch up paint, fixed it, put the ugly guard back on and left it alone.

I'm in Minnesota and I've had one in for a few years now, also my truck is a daily driver that lives outdoors. No issues with crap collecting behind the deflector during winter
Every vehicle I've owned without a deflector had multiple chips in the hood. With a deflector the paint is still perfect.

Good for rocks and chips on the front edge, useless for insects.

i also have a Weathertech, good for stones not so for bugs. Easy to install, sturdy going thru car washes.

My parents seem to like them and run them on all of their vehicles. My experience when them though was that they didn't do much of anything and, for us here in the rust belt, it liked to trap salt underneath and start rotting out the front edge of the hood.

I had a Lund bug deflector on my older 93 toyota 4x4 pickup. Except for protecting the hood nose from paint chips where it covered, it was worth nothing else except make my hood shake at highway speeds over 65 mph. If I recall it didn't help my fuel economy either.

I ordered a WeatherTech and didn't like the fit, it was defective. Ordered another one and same thing, it was rubbing the grille surround. Ended up with AVS low profile, much better and sits lower. I'm in Minneapolis and got it to avoid stone chips, probably won't do anything for bugs. You shouldn't have to worry about rusty/salt/whatever. A lot of people think they look crappy but I guess that's their problem. I would avoid anything that attaches by double-sided tape, I don't want to screw my paint up.

I'm running the identical AVS low profile bug guard (see avatar pic), and while I totally like its looks...I'm not convinced it does much good with "deflecting" bugs. I'm in SW Missouri, and every night after my drive home from work, I swear I have every bug on the highway on the front of my truck...but not on my windshield, so I guess that's something.

More than you’d think. My truck gets covered in dead bugs daily. During the winter not as bad but this time of the year is the worst.

Biggest beef I got with my quicksand color tacoma is, it attracts birds of all species to poop all over it at any place you park it. Today I did a small job at my shop 25 miles away. Parked it in the lot for about 2 hrs. Came out, bird poop everywhere on it, that hardened up pretty good before I could hose it off. This happens everywhere. Really getting pissed. Can't wait for winter to come when most of those little bastards go south.
