i bought a 2016 the second day they were on the lot and was not until late 2018 they got all the issues sorted that appeared with the early models. right now my truck goes in wed for the crossover coolant pipe behind the motor.

Ha, you know it really is. I guess 0-60 in like 7-8 seconds is not enough for some folks.

My truck is a bit chubby, lifted with 33s and man, more than enough power.

I agree with running it in "s" mode. I'm so used to it now I automatically go from Park into S and skip D all together. I read something on here that seems to work..."S4 around town and local roads, S5 on the interstate, and S6 on the interstate going down hills only." And I have the OTT.

I’m always amazed how so many people can’t understand how to drive this truck. Feel free to flame me but having owned numerous vehicles from stick to auto to motorcycle YOU need to figure out the skinny pedal. It took me maybe 1000 miles to understand the driving characteristics of this truck never had an issue with it since. I’ve driven back and forth over half the country twice and this truck is not slow and has plenty of giddy up if you know how to drive it.

New to the Tacoma with about a 1,000 miles on a '23. Is your advice to give it more throttle for a better experience? I have a light foot and drive multiple vehicles so I am not always "dialed in" with it. Sometimes the Tacoma feels right and sometimes a bit off.

Ect makes a huge difference! She takes off quick from a stop sign and shifts WAY BETTER.

I went from a Ford F250 Super Duty with a powerstroke diesel to a 2017 Tacoma with a 2.7 and 5 speed manual. I love it! Yep the Ford was a powerhouse. Till it wasn't.

Yes you can hunt and peck for power but most people complain about having to do that.

The power should be available without using ECT, downshifting or stomping on the "thin pedal".

That said the EPA mileage probably rules and will again for 2024.

hey,, i agree but others here will say there is no difference? sounds like you need the ECT on at start up mod. Ebay. easy install. i got mine from the famous messo way back when, he no longer makes them.

if you don't get the mod and you are running around and making a few stops one of the times you will forget to push it and attempt get out into the flow of traffic and, OOPS! actually could be a bit dangerous, you have to react fast and bury the pedal to the floor almost. without ECT when making a turn from a stop onto a street it has shifted into 4th gear before i even finish the turn and straighten out. plus, and this is weird, in mine the pedal has less resistance with ECT on.

Honestly, I think if you really want a Tacoma, history says you should "one-half" skip a whole generation. It's all in here. You believe the 2nd gen was the best ever? 2008-2011 or 2012-2015. 4th generation coming soon? Look for a mid-term or late 3rd gen. (2023) You want a brandy-new new 2024? Fuhgetabout it: If your current drive isn't on it's last legs: Hold off: 2026 minimum. We know this. I'm not finger-pointing Toyota. All makes have this newbee phenomena. Toyota just has a little less drama, handles it better, and stands behind their product.
