Nope... the 6 cylinder 3.5 in my 2017 is LARGER than the 3.4 in my 2023 Tundra. V8 purists are saying the EXACT same thing about their V8 v. V6, but it isn't true! The TT + hybrid makes that truck MOVE! I don't miss a V8 in the slightest and this is coming from a lifetime Mustang owner.

Based on the fact I own the Tundra version, I'm sure the new iForce MAX in the new Taco is going to be a winner.

Size doesn't matter anymore. That 3.5l minivan engine isn't going to have magical "resale value" in the future, it's going to be scorned. Hell, all of us on TW scorn it now!

(AND the schizo 6 speed auto, AND the drum brakes, AND Entune, ETC...)

With all that bolt on turbo stuff and electrics for the 4 I'll keep my 6 for 300K miles.
Nightmare of repair costs in the long run I see with that 4 and electrics now. Not me. I'd move to a Tundra.
This minivan engine tows faster than the 2nd gen in gauntlet tow tests lol !
And never even try to pass a 3rd gen with a 2nd on the road, will never happen, passing times are faster.
    Great mini van engine !
    BTW I have a V8 Tundra also.

Lol the new Tundra is also chock full of bolt on turbos and orange "do not touch" hybrid wiring.

I've done my own wrenching for my entire life but this may well spell the end. Took one look under the hood of my Tundra and immediately decided that it's probably over at this point.

To be fair, our 3.5 timing cover oil or coolant bypass leaks are no picnic either. No way I'm pulling the engine out of my Taco to do that fix, I don't have the time, tools, or motivation to do THAT job.

I miss my 1965 Chevy small block. Now THAT was easy.

    Yes.
Repair costs at over $100 an hour to fix these thing is ridiculous.
Gone are the days of owing a car for over 15 years imo. Too expensive.
    I miss my 4.0 Jeeps.

I never make a judgement until I physically see it in person. From what I've seen it is a bit overdone but still looks like a Toyota. I still think my 3rd gen is ugly as Aunt Ester.

Loved that 4.0. Thirsty as hell but dead on reliable and could take you anywhere.

Very happy MT is available in SR extra cab. Not sure about I force 2.4 with turbo charger. Toyota on the right track IMO

I like a lot of the interior appointments. The exterior is doing nothing for me at all.

Looks fantastic to me. I imagine I will be buying a TRD sport hybrid as soon as available.

I hope we get an xtra cab MT, but it is not looking likely. The information out there right now indicates that MT will be double cab only.

Because the simpler (cheaper) package getting the MT would make sense, thus Toyota does the opposite.
This is me banging my head on the Xtra-cab where doors used to be. :frusty:

Yeah that won't happen. Manual will only be on the TRD prerunner (I think), sport, and off-road. Toyota knows the limited folks that want manuals are enthusiasts that are ONLY going to buy manuals so they force us into the higher margin trims. Bastards? Yes. But prob the only way they justify keeping the manual as an option.

Honestly, the extracab TRD prerunner could be a very interesting proposition if it does come with a manual and could manage to stay around the $30k mark. Personally, I rarely ever use my 4WD anyways and it would make for a great utility/camping setup. If it gets into the $35kish range then might as well just get the Off-road, IMO. We shall see.

I have a Bronco 7speed with Ford's 2.3 turbo (very similar specs) now and had a 3rd gen off road before it. The current V6 does not even remotely compare to the Turbo 4 which has so much more torque. My guess is you won't think twice after driving the new setup.

Yeh best looking Tacoma ever designed. IMHO. Most powerful and will be the best off-road too. The good thing is those that don't like it can buy a used previous Gen in any flavor forever. So those that gripe about the 4th are either jealous or .....well just jealous....lol

which ledge if I may ask? The deck-lid-spoiler looking thing? That seems so much better vs the bland slope that’s 3rd gen has which looks like it’s a 2nd gen cab.

I’m with you on that matching interior crap, I would accept small accents but not a whole glaring piece of matched plastic running across the dash.

yeah with regards to the grab handle, my friend and I agreed that we would smash our fingers shifting into 5th-6th. Time will tell, I’ll let the first batch people work out the kinks.

I bought my ‘22 thinking it would either be the last manuals, or the last reasonable pricing @ MSRP.

Toyota can’t sell a ‘24 Xtracab with stick and 4x4 so.. oh well. Maybe they will take that chance by 2026 year models.

That's kinda where I'm at. I don't like the sharp jagged body lines and that goes for all the brands.

Toyota finally catching up to the competition on a few things with this gen. Exterior wise it's not too bad except that chin spoiler is horrific and why no hood struts this go around. The power tailgate stuff is very gimmicky to me, I come to the back of the truck to load it in not walking to the side to hit a button on the taillight. Just stuff to add cost. Nothing wrong with a plain ole tailgate handle. Interior I'm with others that wish the would of kept the 3g style and just updated it. That stupid computer screen in the middle looks terrible, I'm driving a truck not a spaceship. The Toyota emblem over the glovebox is not a good look either. Waiting for Toyota to apologize to everyone for telling us we didn't need disc brakes and the drum brakes were the best thing ever for offroading... Glad to see you join the rear disc brake club Toyota. Where is seat belt Mike explaining the reason they decided to go disc now over there super awesome drum brakes?

Turbo 4 over v6 that's they way everything is going now thanks to the govt. 4cyl puts out less emissions then the 6 but your gonna be in boost a lot doing truck work so mpg will not be as great as they claim.

Does anyone know if Toyota changed up the frame material or coating this go around in the tgna platform? This would be a big thing to know, also do we still have a needle bearing design in the front diff as well?
