That looks attached to the deck rails to me and easily removed.

Guessing the roof rack is bolted to threads under the black stripping on the roof that is cut to reveal the threads. At least that’s how a lot of factory racks attach. Prob can remove but would want to order new sections of stripping.

edit: is that a light integrated into the plastic that covers the side of the bed?

Sounds like with the new SUAs gives you the ability of spread a heavier payload with less squat while also getting better off-road ability when needed? And less chatter overall. Nice.

Chief Engineer said about 1" to 1.25" higher compared to 3rd gen from what I remember from the TFL interview.

    @Plasmech @Turd Ferguson @RushT
Also, you also buy a accessory piece that attaches to the sport bar to make a full bed-length rack for a tent of something like that, also in the TFL interview as well. Seems like that would more pricey than buying a full bed-length rack to me. I can also see people not fastening the two together properly....

Did they widen the bed so that a 4x8 sheet of plywood will lie flat like Ford did with the Ranger? I haven't heard anything about that with the new bed configuration, but haven't had time to watch all the videos and interviews yet.

I wonder if the Tacoma will be plagued with reliability and turbo waste-gate issues like the new Tundra has been? It went from a 86 out of 100 consumer reports reliability rating, which is considered above average, to just 70 points in both 22 and 23. Class leading unreliability!

It looks like there is already a standard aero roof rack crossbar already connecting each side.

We won’t know until a couple of years but the waste gate on the Tacoma is not electronic like In the Tundra It’s old school which to me It makes a big difference. Also this engine has been in the NX for over a year no issues so far but I will wait for the second year production before even thinking of getting it, depends also in the pricing. I got my off-road 2021 MT for 37 I doubt very much the new off-road would be less that 45 k

Those were early '22s. Software issue, affected the 2021 builds up until March of 22. Once the software patch was applied the issue disappeared. There were very few actual "failures" at the time (meaning turbo quit) and it's a non issue now.

Current concern for those early builds is the possibility of oil galley blockages (cause TBD, assumption is poor block cleaning after casting leaving shavings) that result in spun bearings. Doesn't seem to affect post March 2022 builds either.

Lol at the "sky is falling" quality Armageddon nonsense spouted on the internet.

CR is a rag. They were great in the 1980s and 90s but once Rhoda Karpatkin retired as director their quality bit the dust.

I'd wager that 7% greater bed capacity spec comes from the taller bedsides. No mention of being able to fit plywood between the wells, and with the notches still in place for putting planks across, I bet it's the same deal as 2/3G. Also no mention of a mid-position tailgate feature so you'll have to make/buy a hitch mounted support or some method of propping up the tailgate (which may give the auto tailgate a fit? I really hope the power tailgate is an option..).

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, there is nothing that I have seen in the gen4 that will pull me away from my 17. I do believe Toyota hit it out of the park with the drive train on the gen 4 though. Hard to argue the numbers and it is a direct shot at their competitors, including the gladiator. The hp increase along with the larger rear diff and 8 speed tranny is significant as well as the ability to run 33's right off the show room floor. I can do w/o some of the gimmicky stuff, though they are offering so much for a myriad of people; that is a good thing.

One of the things I don't like is the 4" increase in wheelbase. Just me. The concern for Toyota, imho, aside from diehard Toyota consumers, is that if the cost is too high there will be those who are willing to jump brands. One of the attractions of the Tacoma was its relative price point. If pro and trailhunter hit high 50's or more, it would make me consider other options. If the offroad comes in reasonably priced, that's where I would put my money. Just like my 17, it is a good start point for building your own truck, saving some cash in lieu of paying for unneeded accessories.

Can anyone verify the "rumor" that the ugly air-dam on the offroad can be removed for trail work? Otherwise, I am sure the aftermarket industry will fix it.

Why don't you like the longer wheelbase, they said it has better approach and departure angles?

Turning radius. Time will tell if those numbers are good enough to offset the longer wheelbase. Can't wait to see real world feedback.

How bad a hit did the break over take? I guess we shall see when we have actual numbers to look at

I'd pull that thing at the dealership right after signing the papers and leave it laying in the parking lot instead of having to find a way to dispose of it myself.

Do we know for sure that the TRDOR will have that air dam? Or is everyone going off that rendering of the red one?

The Prerunner doesn't have it, and it seems the closest to the TRDOR that we've seen so far.

4” longer wheelbase should help the way the truck rides on the road
